"Contact us"

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have been searching the forums, but have been having a lot of trouble figuring out how to make my "contact us" page secure. I have installed SSL, and all the other pages in which guests input information automatically switch over to "https" and display the secure page lock in the upper right corner of the browser. The contact us page does not, and I don't know how to go about changing the link to the "https" version rather than "http." Please help (and explain this in very simple terms if possible--I have NO CLUE what I'm doing)!

Thanks,

Erin

Making the for secure with an ssl won't do any good since the information is sent via email. There's no reason for that data to be protected unless you've changed it to ask for personal information.

Like everything else you want, have a look at the contributions area and do a search for what you want. You may find the Secure Contact Us Submission add on.

This link tells you how to force any osC page to be "secure":

Click Me

Although as Jack said, the data going thru the mail won't be.

To accomplish that you'd have to run the email body thru some encryption algorithm before sending it, then unencrypt it when you receive it.

And you don't want all your pages "secure".

It's just a waste and most search engines don't index SSL pages.

If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.

I think that the reasoning behind having the contact us page page secure is the same as the reasoning behind having the create account page secure.

Who wants the contact us page indexed by the search engines anyway?

You're correct.

The contatct us page should be disallowed in the site robots.txt file IMHO

I just didn't want anyone reading the thread to get carried away with the code and make all their pages SSL.

Yes, the whole site should not be ssl. We do want our products to be indexed.

You are also correct withe the robots.txt file.

Having any page of your site, other than secure ones, is a good idea as long as it is optimized for the search engines.
