newosguy Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 If i have a United States Postal Service account and a PayPal biz account can I use United States Postal Service with PayPal Standard in OSC at checkout?
usernamenone Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 The USPS module just calculates the shipping. If you would like to use paypal to print your shipping label then PayPal will deduct the shipping from your account.

But does the USPS module calculate shipping based on user input. e.g Media Mail, Priority Mail ect. > then pass a $ figure to the PayPal sale (with PayPal Standard or Pro?)
usernamenone Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 No, the usps shipping module will calculate the shipping cost based on weight of the product and to the address of the buyer. Your product costs plus shipping cost combined total will be passed to PayPal and the billing price for both will be collected by PayPal. You then log into your PayPal account find the order and choose Shipping Label or something like that. You are then taken to the shipping info page where you Enter package specs the label is printed and PayPal charges you the actual shipping fee. There may be a little difference in the shipping as the actual weight and your stated weight may very...... You need to add some for box and packing material and this may be through trial and error at first. The tare weight in admin can be set to cover some of the difference. Pumping up the actual weight helps. You will find that some shipping costs are not covered and you will find you made money on some shipping costs.... You can set the module to ship in Media Mail, Priority Mail ect. so the user chooses how fast they want their product.

usernamenone Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 You need to sign up for an account with usps for this website so it will be a new account have them switch you from testing to production as oscommerce has tested its code. You will use the username that they give you and put it in you admin usps shipping.

OK, so I set up an account as suggested and put my user + pass in the OSC USPS module setup. when I go to try at the store it says: United States Postal Service United States Postal Service An error occured with the USPS shipping calculations. If you prefer to use USPS as your shipping method, please contact the store owner. so, does it have anything to do with this? With this ID, you may begin sending calls to the test server. Depending on the API, the address to the test server is either http://testing.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll or https://secure.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll. Use this information in combination with your User ID and your XML string to send a request to the USPS servers. from USPS in the sign up confirmation email? or is it something else?
usernamenone Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Well, did you get the part about recontacting usps and having them switch you to production from testing? You will have to call them if I remember correctly.
newosguy Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 Well, did you get the part about recontacting usps and having them switch you to production from testing? You will have to call them if I remember correctly. I did tell them about using OSC. they have now sent this: "Your profile has been updated to allow you access to the Production Server. 1. The Production Server URL is: http://production.shippingapis.com. For APIs calling the secure server, the URL is https://secure.shippingapis.com. 2. There is a line of code that refers to "shippingapitest.dll". You'll need to remove the word "test". If you are using third party software and need assistance, please contact the vendor of the software. They should be able to assist you in obtaining live information using our APIs." What am I supposed top do now?
usernamenone Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 quite simple, you log into admin choose under modules and then shipping and then USPS then edit and then tick on production instead of the test that is there.
