Hey all... we are relaunching our site on the weekend (ModYourCar.com) which was is an oscommerce foundation although has been modified beyond belief!

Anyway as part of our relaunch we have added a new element to the site to attract our target audience. One of them is already on YouTube if you want to check it out at www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReASv_Jcoc8

I wanted to know what experiences anyone has had with this sort of thing and how it worked out.

Once we launch on the weekend we have a lot more and will be doing a lot more promotion through video which we are looking forward to.

Love to hear peoples experiences etc!

The industry I am in, video sells big-time. The classic best-selling products sell great without it. But that is through word of mouth. New products on the other hand, will sell noticeably better with video demos.

However, I didn't see any product demos in your video. Just video of a photo shoot. If they are going to be featured prominanty on your website, you are going to prevent many users with enough cash to pay for toys from having an obsession browsing your site.

Here in North America a lot of surfing is done at work. Viewing a site with scantily clad women featured on it is in violation of a lot of companies' policies, and can also (in a worst case scenario) spark a sexual harrassment suit should a passing co-worker decides she (or he) felt "unmfortable".

Then there is the home surfer. They may decide to not surf the website when their wife is home, but that prevents him form opening up the browser to your site to justify the purchase of the $1500 car mod. They'll probably just stick with competitors that don't plaster women all over their websites.

In our industry, a new magazine started being published about a year ago and features bikini-wearing models in each issue. One issue had one right on the front cover. You have no idea the amount of grown men and teenagers that had to hide that issue out of site of their wives or parents. Heh.

Imagine having to hide a hobby magazine in the same hiding place as your porno mags so your wife doesn't find them. ;)

Anyhow, just a little bit of food for thought. It's a shame some of us have wives that think Maxim magazines are no different than porn. Not that porn was ever bad anyhow......

i think you are overgeneralizing women here.. I would say that if your market is OLDER men, then MAYBE< but if you are marketing to middle ages - and under men, then you have VERY little to worry about.

"Modern" women are a LOT less worried about scantily clad women and more worried about the real LIVE women out there. They arent NEARLY as easily offended as say the people who are now in their 60's. I mean, i even look at my parents and my friends parents who all grew up in the 70's and during the sexual revolution. They are NOT as offended as the people you mention about hiding your hobby mag. because of a bikini wearing model.

Really, if you aren marketing to 20-40 year older, i really think you are MORE than safe, because those are the guys who LOVE to see hot chicks, and their wives are more likely from a generation where it is totally ok to have a bikini wearing model on the cover of a car mag.

I do, however, agree with the people at work not wanting to look at that stuff, but now you are talking about a MUCH MUCH smaller portion of people who will be browsing your site from work.

Cars and hot chicks go together.. like a hamburger and fries

A great place for newbies to start

By me that video was boring. I almost closed the video after some 20-30 sec, then pushed myself to watch it to the end to see if there is something related to your products. The video also looks very amateur (probably that was an idea, I don't know), but I believe that a few people will watch it to the end. And then you see "please visit ....com" (sorry I still don't remember site name after watching the video. I mean, that video looks like thousands other videos, nothing special in there and very boring.

I never said the video was promoting a product. I agree the video was not all that exciting and it wasn't meant to be. The video is one of our girls in action on the day of the photoshoot, thats all.

I was just asking about peoples experiences etc...

Agree hot chicks and cars go together, thats the industry I am in.

I didn't mean to offence you in any way. You asked for honest opinions and I just said mine.

What I meant actually, after watching your video I couldn't recall your web site name. It appears in the very end for short time, but I almost close that video long before the end. I didn't only because I want to give you honest opinion.
