fastest way for playing around?

I'm absolute newbie when it comes to web application programming.

I've just downloaded OSCommerce, MySQL and PHP and before trying

my first application on a real web server I'd like to play around with

OSCommerce on my local Windows machine to get comfortable with it.

 

Is it possible to run OSCommerce without web server, just PHP and

database and looking at the generated HTML pages with my web browser?

 

Otherwise, is there an easy to install web server for local testing on

Windows which kind runs out of the box?
