lindsayanng Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 have you clicked through your site on different screen sizes or monitors?? I have a widescreen monitor and your tables are all WAY off. Your head is centered, but your top navigation is ALMOST centered, but a little to the left. When i click on wall sconces, your ENTIRE table actually gets pushed off the screen and its REALLY a mess. when you click on a category, the actual IMAGES for the category are really low on the page, which made me think that there was no products in your category.. Guest Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Actually looks good on my screen at different settings: what explorer r u using i been checking it on firefox only. Well, I only use firefox and it looks terrible on mine. It goes way past my screen and my resolution is 1024. I understand the look you were going for, but there is way too much beveling in the images and too much 'tinkle' (does that make sense?). the text "US Dollar" as well as the other currencies are cut off in the drop down menu for currencies. The whole thing doesn't appear to be a part of each other. I don't know how else to describe it. Nothing appears centered. It doesn't make sense where your sub-categories text shows up...it's kind of disorienting.

Thank you for your feedback this is really good for us. we are correcting right now the way it cuts the currencies, reduce the website size to 1024px. Now i have a question what r u guys running your screen mostly, like what is consider standard, cus i have mine at 1280 and looks decent sized.

Now i have a question what r u guys running your screen mostly, like what is consider standard, cus i have mine at 1280 and looks decent sized. I'm running at 1024, and that's what my site is set at, but tomorrow, I'm taking it down to 960. I really think 1024 is too much for fixed pixel width. I may be wrong, just my thoughts.
lindsayanng Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 the site runs ok on my macbook pro with the widescreen on firefox, but earlier i was looking at in through IE7 on a stock monitor (i dont know the actual res. or screen size. I think that making fixed width is a little risky because it will NEVER fit everyone.. using percentages or centering the site is a good idea. I just centered my site and was VERY VERY happy with the outcome. Now that i can see the site without all the mess, i can comment on the design. IN MY OPINION: the background should go. For some reason, i NEVER like graphic and dark backgrounds. It makes the website look cheap unless it is REALLY well done. Can you make a white background just to SEE how it goes?? I do like the sparkles in your header. It makes your site stand out, but the "*" before the categories is just cheesey to me. I think you can also do better with your categories box. It also looks a little cheap. I MIGHT look better ona lighter background though. You can see the pixel outline on those blue dots. The product descriptions are nice, but the colors do NOT seem to fit.. you have dark colors all over with Blues and whites, but then you have these nice warm colors.. try using somethign to match the product description in your background. i think that can bring your site a LONG way. lindsayanng Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 your tables are still a mess.. you CAN center the entire shop, there is a contribution called center shop. Its easy to do, but i do not think that will fix your misaligned tables.. your right colum and left column boxe headings are wider than the content of the boxes, you navigation is still out of line with the content and so is your header. I have NO IDEA how you did that and how you can fix it because you obviously made a lot of changes to your site.. Also, have you considered changing the background A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. lindsayanng Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 oh yea.. and WHAT IN THE WORLD is that creepy pic of a fuzzy man in your ORDER A SAMPLE page?? Guest Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Yeah, the fuzzy man has got to go. The currencies are still cut off. You've bevelled the lettering and the flags too much. They've actually become distorted. You need to center your footer. Put the counter and the paypal/visa/mc things either above the footer info or below, but everything should be centered. Make the lettering less bevelled. Nothing wrong with bevelling but when you start losing the letter, then it's too much. You should take it from 1024 down to 955px. Just my opinion. Also, would you be willing to try a blue background rather than black? It would be less disorienting.
yustis_83 Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 oh yea.. and WHAT IN THE WORLD is that creepy pic of a fuzzy man in your ORDER A SAMPLE page?? Yeah i know in explorer is displaying wrong we are working on that. i will try to center my shop and see if that does something to it. in firefox we have no problem with alignment. and the guy on the sample page is just temporary. i am puting a video in that box later on. Now regarding that part of the samples do you get to see the complete form displayed on your screen or just a small part with a scrollbar? And also if you people would like to order some samples feel free to do it up to 2 samples. since we also want to try shipping this and see how fast and what condition our customers get the samples. And please feel to keep checking our store to point more errors. About the background we changed it to white but the owner doesn't like it he wants a dark background but we added some color to the infoboxes a little yellow what do you guys think of this ?

yustis_83 Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 Okay we centered the footer now. Not sure about whats going on with explorer i'll keep looking into that and ask around also. Let me know what you think about color scheme now and if you find any more glitches on the website also let me know if our decorating game works for you and if it doesn't take too long to load. Thank you again
Guest Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 The footer is fine now for me, but the header keeps moving around every time I click on a link. Honestly, I can't stay on the site long because I get nauseated from the 'tinkle' and movement of the pictures. Way too much movement. Very dated. More like what would have been built in the late 90's early 2000. I'm not trying to be mean here, just trying to give you my honest opinion. The products look beautiful, it's just that you really can't appreciate them because of the web elements which are all competing for your attention. The us dollar text is still cut off. The text box is not tall enough. Make the text shorter or the box bigger. I'm not using ie, I use firefox.
lindsayanng Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I am on firefox now with a widescreen high res. monitor. So this is what i see as an apparent issue. Your info boxes (the content in the left and right columns) are off. The headers are bigger than the box content. I think the MAIN issue is in your right column in the first box you have that picture that is making the rest of the column wider than it should be. You should make that little flash movie picture smaller. also, if your customer is dead set on the dark background, then make it a solid color, not an image. It REALLY hurts the eyes and makes it look cheap. It remindes me of those free tripod sites. the decorate and play page is VERY confusing to me.. what is it for? It seems like it would be neater if the customer could upload their OWN pictures and put the chandaleirs in it. Also, that page, the alignment is off. The text above the main page categories that SAYS categories is a little small and "lame" for lack of a better of word I also think you should get rid of the BLUE diamond and the BLUE hover color. Basically, you do not have ANY blue anywhere on your site and that looks out of place. i would change the font in the ABOUT CRYSTAL page. it again, looks cheap. A regular Arial font is best. I just signed up for the free samples and found some of your questions intrusive. I dont REALLY want to tell you how much money my household makes or wether i rent or own.. and the age thing is almost useless too... and what if i am not interested in anything listed.. VERY useless again.. I would simplify that to JUST what you want the person to tell you.. ALSO, you can take that opportunity to ask the person if they would like to create an account for your site and sign up for newsletters. Also, you told us here to old choose TWO free samples, but i COULD have chosen as many as possible. Do you plan on, at one time, offering ALL of those for free?? What if i visit the site every day and order samples daily.. how will you know? When i clicked submit again something REALLY weird popped up, then i realized it was an image that said THANK YOU, but it didnt match you site. Just a nice image with a script that says thank you for sampling.. that image doesnt even fit in the table so i have to scroll to see the whole thing. AND once i submitted, i was not able to get back to your main site by clicking the banner. patarini Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Hmm I just looked -- the color scheme is nice but the sideboxes are impossible to read on my laptop, free sample page is missing, screen tends on about half the pages to slide to the right. Also the trade sign up page doesnt link back to the site. I am using IE right now, hope this helps. greg

lindsayanng Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 you are now getting an error in your right column: Warning: main(templates/theme055/boxes/rooms.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homepages/25/d248348871/htdocs/shop/includes/column_right.php on line 54 Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'templates/theme055/boxes/rooms.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php') in /homepages/25/d248348871/htdocs/shop/includes/column_right.php on line 54 also, you categories that are on the main page all have different borders, some with no borders. I would make all of those uniform. And i STILL think you should play with the background. you have a LOT of products under some categories. Making more than one columm would help your layout A LOT A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP.
