Admin problem, password window keeps popping up

I have a problem with my friend's store and haven't a clue what is causing it or how to fix it, any ideas welcome.

 

When I log into admin, I get admin index without any problem, but when I click any of the links the password window keeps popping up endlessly, the only way to go through is to keep clicking "cancel" and eventually it will let me through. I also get a lot of "this page contains both secure and non secure items" warnings.

 

Can anybody help please?

Try removing the passwords from the control panel and .htacess and start over. Also look at their configure.php file (admin) and make sure it is set up properly.

I removed passwords from CPanel and htpasswords and re-set them.

The configure.php file looked ok (but bear with me I'm a novice), I slightly edited it based on my configure.php. For example there was:

define('DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT', $DOCUMENT_ROOT);

 

I changed it to:

define('DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT', '/home/username/public_html/');

 

Didn't think it mattered but I tried. Now the password window pops up less often, but it still does.
