FREEBIES contrib to bypass paypal

The following contrib I learned about in the paypal forum. http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/3747 Does anyone know about this contrib? I need to skip the paypal process for freebies, however, it says that it will also bypass it if the shipping is zero. Well, all I have are digital downloads and there is no shipping, so I dont want it to bypass the payment process for everything. Can it be modified to do it for ONLY the freebies category? Has anyone done this or used this contrib?

 

I know this goes in the paypal forum, and I have posted questions there, but trying to cover all my bases here.

it will simply bypass the checkout redirection to PayPal if the value of the order is 0.0 including the delivery charge, the contribution is easy to install.

So, in other words, it will bypass the process ONLY if the price is zero AND the shipping is zero? It will not affect the purchase items with free shipping? Sorry to ask for further clarification. I do appreciate your help.

Okay, so, I re-read the contrib. Now, this may seem super stupid of me, but its already been a long day. Bear with me please. The installation instructions says to:

Replace the enclosed document with your item found in the folder catalog

 

OR

 

If you have a modded site, copy lines 75-85 to your version of the program just before the first HTML.

 

 

I am so lost. If I replace it with my item, how will they know what they are getting? I know, Im totally an idiot right now. I upload my zip file to my folder where the downloads are kept. Then, I add the item in the proper freebies category. Leaving the price and shipping blank (ie. zero). Go to the Products Attributes and fill in the proper information for where the zip is located. What next? How does this help? Where does it go? What do I replace with the included file?

If you install "Downloads Controller" then it comes with Free Shipping and Free Charging modules which will do what you want.

Thanks Vger. I believe I looked at that contrib a while back and was more lost with it...LOL I will definitely check it out again this morning to see if I can pull off installing it. Thanks a million for answering and trying to help.

Hi sorry not been able to check in as often as i would like.

 

OK this is a very simple solution. the few lines check to see if the goods & selected delivery cost come to ZERO. if they so then it just skips the request for a payment and sets goes to the next standard osc page which is checkout_confirmation.php

PS it woud be best if you had a local version of your system or a remote test version then uploaded any mods and try them before putting them live.

It's ok for the delay in answering. Im afraid I will mess something up by installing it. Im not really good at installing contribs. Every one I have tried to install, Ive messed it up bad. :) I think I am going to list my freebies on my main site and just have them click a link for an autodownload. I am intrigued by the contrib, but I am just fearful of doing it myself.
