Guest Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 http://www.gebodesign.no This site has been running for quite some time now, and I've basically gotten the functionality as I want.. Should be quite fast to load :) The design needs some work though, I believe... Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)
lindsayanng Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 some random products... not a very good name for a header.. everything else is VERY VERY basic oscommerce. Have you thought about adding image headers for your infoboxes? there is a great contribution that can do that for you.. and changing the style of your categories menu woudl be a good thing theres SOO much you can do with the basic oscommerce design.. you just changed some colors.. Guest Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Hehe, yeah I've been thinking about that random products title too.. Didn't really know what to write, plus it's basically focused on the norwegian version, not really many international customers... Think I'm gonna take a look on the categories menu, sounds like a good idea :) My main problem is an absolute lack of creativity :D
DataMouse Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Hi there! 1. The design is a basic osCommerce installation, with the CSS file colour attributes changed and a new header graphic. 2. I like the fact that you've used a contribution for enlarging images. This is a real pet peeve of mine :-) 3. Your product descriptions are very short. I would try and flesh them out a bit for SEO. 4. You should use Header Tags for SEO - will work wonders with your search engine crawling. 5. Icons are default. Notifications, for example. Change to something more inkeeping with the site. Other than that, there's not much else because it's hardly modified. Nice work I had a blind date last night. Her name was ..:. :.: :: .. ::. :. ::. Guest Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I have done some changes on the site now, and I think it has done some good for the site... Changes: Replaced all buttons with black button with "site font" Replaced "new products" box on front page with "categories" box Some changes to stylesheet colors Please let me know what you think :) Also I'd like some input on background/box background colors I feel the site looks very "made of boxes"... Any ideas on new layout? All comments appreciated, but I'd like most negative comments as those could help me improve.. lol thanks :)
DataMouse Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I feel the site looks very "made of boxes"... Any ideas on new layout? Technically, all sites are made of boxes - even tableless CSS driven sites. The idea is to have a layout that doesn't obviously look like it's boxes - and, at the moment, your site has lines around every individual box - which isn't helping. :-) If you take my store for example (DataMouse), you can see that it is still box-shaped. But, because there is less content on the page, you don't really notice it. There's also curved images (specials at bottom left) to try and draw your eye away from the boxes too. On my homepage for the store, I only have 3 areas: Products (limited to just 4), Categories (on left) and specials (also on left). You can still choose a language - but the screen is much less cluttered. For your site, I would advise to do the same. Currencies and languages can be reduced - they don't need a box each. Just dropdown and flag in your header would be fine. Same with Search. I only have a search icon that takes visitors straight to advanced_search.php. As a shortcut, I also added in a link to Free Stuff that is effectively a search result page. Remember - sometimes less is more. Hope that this helps. Danny I had a blind date last night.
