tanya555 Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I have only just installed the store and have been configuring various components. However can anyone tell me how to add pages. I can only seem to add categories and items. I would like to add additional pages for shipping, privacy, about us etc. I would also like to know if you can add blank pages to insert HTML codes etc. I would be grateful for your help. I have other problems I would like to deal with one thing at a time. Thanks
lindsayanng Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 there are already shipping and privacy pages.. you just need to edit them to say what you want.. have you lookd at the site at all since you installed? tanya555 Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 Yes after installation I finished on a page which has two buttons. One is the catalogue and the other administration Tool. I have looked through the administration tool and cannot find these pages. The catalogue section just shows a demonstration page. I am very new to setting up websites and have another e-store but the control panel for this was very explicit and easy to understand. I would be grateful if you could give me some direction as to where I should look and redirection if I am looking in the wrong places.
Jack_mcs Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Look at this page. Found by going to above Network->Knowledge Base menu item. tanya555 Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 I have looked at the knowledge base and within my administration page and my menu ends at Tools. I do not seem to have a catalogue area, General information or developer section in my list. Why is this?
tanya555 Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 I also have this warning at the top of the database backup manager page 'Backup directory does not exist. Please set this in configure.php.' and these two warnings when I go into the catalog page ' Warning: Installation directory exists at: /home/vol5/byethost6.com/b6_2122499/htdocs/install. Please remove this directory for security reasons. Warning Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/vol5/byethost6.com/b6_2122499/htdocs/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.' I am not sure if I may have wrongly set up the SQL database wrongly as I was configuring and setting up the osCommmerce store via my host Byethost. I downloaded it from their download page. Can this be why I some of my admin panel is missing? I am not very familiar with SQL database and my son who is training to be a web designer set it up but he was not sure if it was correct. Cannot redownload it as it tells when I try to do it that it has been downloaded successully. I dont know how to rectify the above problems and how to access them. Grateful for anyone's help.
lindsayanng Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 you dont set those pages in the admin. Very little is done in the admin when it coems the to content and layout of your site (minus products and banners) you have to do everything within the PHP pages. You should really read through the knowledge base. REALLY read it. A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. I do not seem to have a catalogue area, General information or developer section in my list. Why is this? The catalogue (catalog) area refers to the shop side of the installation, as oppossed to the admin side. The others refer to the documentation, not your shop. As Lindsay stated, not much is done with the setup of admin. You have to add the backups directory yourself and delete the Install directory. tanya555 Posted July 19, 2008 Author Posted July 19, 2008 I have managed to delete the install directory. However I still cannot find the correct number for this includes/configure.php. 'set the right user permissions on this file.' I have used SmartFTP and the number is 711 at present. I have tried to vary it but am stabbing in the dark. Can anyone tell me the number or where to get it to configure correctly?
tanya555 Posted July 19, 2008 Author Posted July 19, 2008 I have found the instructions within the knowledge base and it tells me to change the catalogue/includes setting to 644 or 444. The catalogue file does not have any sub files. I have changed this file itself and other sub files within other categories to these numbers and when I do this and log in to either the administration or catalogue pages I get a blank page so have to change the settings back to the original number.

The catalogue file does not have any sub files. I have changed this file itself and other sub files within other categories to these numbers and when I do this and log in to either the administration or catalogue pages I get a blank page so have to change the settings back to the original number. 1. ALL folders should have permissions of 755, including sub-folders. 2. ALL files should have permissions of 644. 3. The two configure.php files which should have permissions of 755 or 777 during the install. 4. After the install is complete: --4.1 Delete the 'install' folder --4.2 Reset permissions on both configure.php files to 644, 444, or 400 whichever applies to your server setup.
tanya555 Posted July 19, 2008 Author Posted July 19, 2008 I tried these numbers and could not initially access the catalogue but could access admin. I tried several times using the various numbers you quote but I mistakenly entered a wrong number beginning with 0 and it denied me further access to change the number. I was then unable to access my site. I then deleted the database I had created when downloading osCommerce and began again to re-download it. I was able to do this successfully and was asked to enter my sql details which I did to create the store. When I then tried to access the main page it returned this message Unable to connect to database server! I have checked my sql login details in the configure.php and they seem correct. I also read in a previous post that my sql server details should be within the application_top.php file but I cannot find this and can only find this section: // make a connection to the database... now tep_db_connect() or die('Unable to connect to database server!'); should there be additional information within the brackets?
