Guest Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Hi Can anyone recommend a particular company or individual to help me update my osCommerce? Most of what I need done is over my head and I'm a bit strapped for time to learn to do it right. I'd be better off paying to have it done right the first time. Thanks for the advice, Mark
sconnelly Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 It would be nice if there were a listing of peer reviewed programmers for hire. I'm am unsure if this sort of question is allowed in this forum. I couldn't ask for recommendations on osc friendly hosting sites. For osc PHP coding, you could go to GetAFreeLancer but I've had disappointing to fair results. Often coders over-state their skills or sub-contract to someone else. If you decide to use such a service be aware and cover your bases. Don't give the coder any more access to your website than necessary, do not pay for any services until the project is completed and tested, and most importantly, be absolutely precise about what you expect. Jan Zonjee Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I'm am unsure if this sort of question is allowed in this forum. You are right: it is not allowed to ask for commercial help.
FIMBLE Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 See lot of this lately. Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post [/url] My Contributions
lindsayanng Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 they should have a classifieds section on this forum, but they should require the individual to be active on this site (active meaning a few posts a week or something) for a certain length of time in order to post in that forum.. I wonder WHY they wouldnt do that.. SOOo many people are looking to pay someone, and most dont want a big company, but just someone to help one on one. i did learn that posting an ad on CRAIGSLIST asking for oscommerce help, you will get some good people who can actually work with you in person. A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. My time is valuable, unless i ask you to PM me, please dont. You will get better help if you post publicly. I am not as good at this as you think anyways! HOWEVER, you can visit my blog (go to my profile to see it) and post a question there, i will find time to get back and answer you Proud Memeber of the CODE BREAKERS CLUB!!
Guest Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Hi Yes it would be good. Just like zencart : " Commercial Help Wanted Help-Wanted posts only. Forum is FREE to post, but only subscribers can view others' posts in order to offer a reply. ?? CART DOES NOT WARRANTY THE QUALITY OF ANY RESPONSE YOU MAY RECEIVE FROM POSTING. Please do your own evaluation of every person who replies to you. Make sure they are capable and trustworthy before you pay or give login info. Responses to your posts will be by PM." this would be good I wpuld go with this.
Jan Zonjee Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 this would be good But the osC team don't want it so until that changes: stick with the rules: no asking for commercial help. No offering of commercial help in public, no hinting that you offer commercial help.... <_<

lindsayanng Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 i understand that its not allowed.. I'm not saying we shoudl all skirt the rules just because we THINK it should be allowed.. I am just curious as to WHY the oscommerce team does NOT want this. A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. Jan Zonjee Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 i understand that its not allowed.. Correct. I am just curious as to WHY the oscommerce team does NOT want this. I don't remember having heard a reason (I suggested the above myself once).
Guest Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Please pardon my mistake in posting this request. I was unaware.
♥toyicebear Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 For osc PHP coding, you could go to GetAFreeLancer but I've had disappointing to fair results. Often coders over-state their skills or sub-contract to someone else. I can attest to this one, i get a lot of work thrown my way from freelancers and web designers which have a project involving oscommerce but lack the skills to complete it themselves. So they sub-contract the parts of the project they can not do themselves to me ... and ofcourse their customer do not know this and think that the one they originally contracted to do the project is actually also the one doing the work on it...   Basics for osC 2.2 Design - Basics for Design V2.3+ - Seo & Sef Url's - Meta Tags for Your osC Shop - Steps to prevent Fraud... - MS3 and Team News... - SEO, Meta Tags, SEF Urls and osCommerce - Commercial Support Inquiries - OSC 2.3+ How To To see what more i can do for you check out my profile [click here]

burt Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Those who have been on the forum for a long time will remember that there was once a "commercial" part of the forum. The basis was that members could ask for work to be done, and those with "ability" would contact them offering a solution (usually for payment). The forum was removed. I quote: The Seeking Commercial Help forum channel is no longer available, as the condition of the project benfiting from it did not occur (in the form of contributions, donations, etc). edit: the above quote doesn't really make sense on it's own, so here's (one of) the rules that was in place for the "commercial" forum: To also keep true to the general forum rules, the work involved here must be contributed back to the community and be available in the Contributions section. We ask that part of the money involved for installation and similar services be donated to the osCommerce team to help with the continue development of the project.

I don't remember it, might have been removed before I came here. Interestingly enough there is a place for it on the (official) German forums.
