Why accept bankcard when it no longer exists.

Paypal, PayMate, card processing via your bank with whom you have a merchant account.

paymate is in the addons, go for the paymate spi.

EFT can be moto if you have a terminal - use phone in payment.

How does commweb work? (we already have a merchant account with commonwealth).

I'm looking for something [if it even exists!] that will pre-authorise the payment (i.e. check that funds are there), I then pack the order, double check postage rate, then head back to the computer and confirm the payment (adjusting for any items out of stock, postage decrease/increase). Does such a thing exist?

The commweb can be 2 or 3 party. I use 3 party so I do not store cc info, it gets processed by a 3rd party.

The commweb is additional to your merchant account.

To the best of my neagre knowledge, such as you seek does not exist.

I use the Australian Shipping module (ie Aust Post drc) to calculate the shipping.

To check if you have the stock, you need something like the QTPro addon. I have not installed it yet.

If get a mobile terminal off which bank, you can use it for MOTO payments (mail order, phone order, fax order, over the counter sales, store pickup, and card not present type transactions, but not email orders because of card security issues).

quick reply, also a night owl?!

We currently use MOTO to process most of our payments, but I'm looking into becoming PCI compliant, should have done it a long time ago, but it just didn't happen. Have spent all day updating securities on the site, but now looking at the payment side of things. Am thinking that a payment gateway might take away some of the hassle (have also read a fair bit stating that we might be violating the merchant agreement by using the eftpos terminal and the MOTO option).

Our store is also 'real world', which means that we constantly have products go out of stock because an instore customer has purchased them, and we haven't had time to update the website to reflect this. Unfortunately this is just something that will continue to happen, I try to stay on top of it, but it happens from time to time.

With regards to the postage, I'm also using the Aussie Shipping Module, but what we mainly use is prepaid express post parcels, and the weight options that I'm using are more often than not a little out, meaning that we have to manually check the postage on each order before we send it out. Again, not a thing that is going to change any time soon I think.

So I'm really looking for something that will let me pre-authorise the payments. I've found info on the net that seems to suggest that it can be done, just having trouble finding out if Commonwealth or ANZ do it (more info on the net about American payment gateways than Aussie ones). I think I will go down to the local banks and chat tomorrow.

Hmm, good point... I will *try* to go down to the banks and chat :)

Incidentally, I have just found a payment gateway called 'eway', which seems to have reasonable fees (similar to what we are already paying), and appears to do what I'm looking for (with the pre-authorisation). Am currently trying to find reviews and info from people who are using it, there is a contribution for it in the addons section, so it's sounding good.

Let me know what you find out. I may need it when I change webhosts.

Bleh silly banks, am so sick of them! One recommendation - don't bother going into the branch to discuss this information - both ANZ and Commonwealth had no idea what I was on about, I had to head home and give them a call from home.

- Commonwealth Bank's "commweb" allows for the pre-authorision (they call it "Authorisation" or "Auth transactions"). They charge a fair amount for it all though: an establishment fee, an administration fee (per annum), a monthly system access fee, a transaction fee (which is doubled if you use the "Auth transactions") and a merchant service fee (a percentage from each credit card that is processed).

- ANZ's "egate" doesn't allow for the pre-authorisation, so I didn't pursue it any further (although the guy that I talked to at ANZ recommended eway if their solution didn't suit).

- eway's plans appear to allow for pre-authorisation, they have a feature known as "stored payments". However when I rang them, they explained that this simply means that they store the CC details for when I'm ready to finish the transaction - they don't pre-check that the funds exist in the account, that the expiry date is ok etc. Their fees are reasonable, but don't include the "merchant service fees (the percentage from each credit card that is processed, normally around 1-2%, this is charged by our bank).

- I found ematters as another alternative, have sent them an email but am still waiting to hear back.

Does anyone else have any other payment gateways (in Aus) that I can look into?
