Shipping weight much higher than product weight...

Hi folks,

Am seeking some assistance from the ever worshipped wizards of OSC.

For some reason, the shipping weight on my site is always much higher than the actual product weight. For example, if a customer buys a product that weighs 0.35 kg, it's shipping weight is being displayed as 4.5 kg. I've double and triple checked the weight I have in the database for the products and the packaging, and they're all correct. I have no idea where OSC is finding the additional weight.

Any ideas/suggestions?

The site is http://www.globalgamergear.com/oscommerce/

Any other feedback or suggestions re the site also very welcome. I'm very new to OOSC and still have a LOT to learn.

All wisdom welcome!

Thanks in advance,

Sharon

Tare weight is set to 0.05.

Are you sure? The tare weight is in admin shipping/packaging.

Double, triple and quadruple checked...

<sigh>

Definitely set to 0.05.

I wonder...

Does OSC handle 2 digits after the decimal place? It's not doing something weird and shifting the decimal is it? If it was doing that and rounding, it might be able to get to the numbers I'm seeing...

Just a thought...

Definitely set to 0.05.

Does it happen on all shipping modules or only one. Please give details.

I finally figured it out.

There must be some sort of bug with the "Larger packages - percentage increase" setting. I had this set to 10 (ie 10%). Instead, it was multiplying the total package weight by 10. I have just left it blank for now, and all the weights are now acting properly. Yay!

Many thanks to all responders.

Best regards,

Sharon

OK, but that was not a 10% increase.

I think it was

(total product weight + packaging tare weight) x 10

I had played around with packaging tare weights, trying to see if that had anything to do with it. I don't recall what the tare was when I got the example I used, but it could well have been 0.1 as that was one of the values I experimented with.

Thus:

(product weight [0.35] + packaging tare [0.1]) x 10 = 4.5

Not sure... But, either way, it's working so long as I have no values in that field.

For info, I'm using the Zone shipping module.

Thanks again,

Sharon

Ten percent increase means multiplying by 1.10 to get the total weight.

(product weight [0.35] + packaging tare [0.1]) = 0.36

10% of this is 0.036

add this to the first total and you get 0.396 <-- 4.5 is 4.104 above this figure

More likely scenario

(product weight [0.35] + packaging tare [3.0]) = 3.35

10% of this is 0.335

add this to the first total and you get 3.685 <-- 4.5 is 0.815 above this figure

So, I don't understand how you got 4.5.

If the 10% increase only applies to the tare weight, that is a worse senario.

But if you are happy, ok, but be vigilant that it was not something else.

I have the same problem. Do you mind to tell me where you made the change?
