The e-commerce.

Linking Articles, Testimonials, etc. to Products

Hi,

I know there may have been some past discussion on the boards regarding this issue, but I think that this is a necessary addition to the osCommerce arsenal.

What I am thinking of is basically a hack of the categories/product system, in which you can assign anything is a child of a product or category. I have come up with the following:

-An article in text format, or with embedded HTML

-A related page

-A related product

-An article in download format

-A Testimonial for a specific product

-An additional picture page

-Manufacturer's mail in rebates (like Amazon does them, as printable images)

Doing it this way would allow things to be easily linked from the product's page and also employ the product notification feature (i.e. if you update an article that is related to a product, the person get's notified).

Has anybody explored or started on something like this? Do you guys have any thoughts or additional suggestions to keep in mind?

I am no master programmer, but this is something that a client of mine really needs, so I will be putting some time in on it. Any help or advice before I start down the road would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Zac

There is already a field in the product information for a URL (in the admin). Why not use that? I don't know if it is tied to the notifications though. It would give you a place to start.

I had thoughts about that, but I would like to be able to add as many related items as necessary (retaining many of the great features of the current categories system).

?
