Unable to connect to database error

My site works, but when too many searches are done on it, this happens :(

I am fighting this to the darn end...every time I read more, I wonder what is actually wrong..here is the error-

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxx/includes/functions/database.php on line 19

Unable to connect to database server!

 

I have read, that the error could actually be in my configure.php files...is this true?

or am i just totally lost, and just need to do more research to my problem??

I have also increased the memory in the php.ini file, and I believe cached the left side column..(not 100% sure on that, if someone can point me in the right direction on how to cache the column, that might help :)
