Stroker396 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I looked through all the contributions to the Shipping Modules and I can't seem to find anything that will do this. Most ecommerce software supposes that you are shipping from one location. Most large companies that have multiple warehouses will have most of the products at each or write their own software. But for a small company who sets up accounts with their suppliers and had the products drop shipped to their customer, this can be difficult to calculate the freight correctly. For Instance, since shipping is based on weight and distance (since the weight of the product is not gong to change it is irrelevant for this example) if I have a customer in NJ and he orders a product that ships from IL the cost might only be say $5 to ship, but since my store is based in CA the frieght will be calculated from CA and the customer might have to pay $15. Freight has become a sticky issue these days and it is important to be competitive. If the customer is in CA and the store is based in CA, but the product is shipping from NJ the customer will be under billed for the freight and the company could take a loss. I have heard 2 schools of though 1. base you company in the most remote region so all shipping is high 2. Base your company most centrally so that all shipping averages out. Neither is a good solution. If I have suppliers all over the country drop shipping products I need to be able to set up each product leaving from a different location (maybe Zip based) to calculate the correct amount of freight.
