animekid Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Hi all. New to the forums here. I have a web blog called " fanboy@50 " and I wanted to know if this shopping cart will work on a blog rather than a traditional bus site. Have a Ebay store and trying to get away from that nightmare. any info will be helpfull. Thanks in advance Animekid
Guest Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 It will work as long as you have PHP and MySQL. If your site is from blogger or similar it won't work. Domain names are cheap and hosting is not that much. You can always download osCommerce and set up a server on your computer (easyPHP or XAMPP) and then see if it is something you wish to use before purchasing a domain name. If you have a domain and a blog up on that site you should ask your host, worst case they will have to upgrade your account but most likely osC will run on the package you have as blog programs need a DB to run so you should be good to go. There are a few contributions that incorporate blog programs into osC, you should search the contributions section for them.
Guest Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Depends on how integrated you want it. Obviously there's nothing stopping you having an osc shop and a blog on the same server and they can be customized to look exactly the same in terms of colour schemes and layout. They can even use the same database.

I have Os Commerce as an option from my hosting service on " Midphase ", so I am assuming that I can just click on it and have it loaded up on the blog...just not a great tech person...and would need tons of help with any operating problems.. Guest Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 What blog are you using? I would install OS commerce yourself rather than have an automatic install. There's basically two ways of doing it that I know of (I use wordpress). 1. Find a mod from the Wordpress community that installs OSC within a blog. or 2. Find a mod here that installs wordpress (or any other blog software) within OSC. And that, is about as helpful as I can get as mine are completely seperate yet have the same colour schemes / similar layout so that they look like they're part of the same site.
JakSmit Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I'm just wondering about sessions etc. say they look completely the same, if the user goes from the shop with products in their basket to the blog (effectively not knowing they are leaving the oscommerce environment), then returns to the shop, will they retain their session? i.e. will they still have their products when they go back to the shop? I guess using force cookie rather than session id would be needed so can have static links on the blog not one with the oscid appended.
Guest Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I use sessions and you can leave for the blog and then return to the shop - to be honest I don't know that much about it, it's one of those things that just worked so I left it as it was!!
ssnb Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I have been trying to incorporate a wordpress blog into my OSC site for weeks - and no one seems to be able to help! It kinda works, but the comments and categories don't display properly. I have searched the contributions and there are none that actually incorporate properly. So in which case, you might be better off doing more research before you jump in!! http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=312274 Cheers Sol
