Error on reinstall - URGENT to restore site

/bin/rm: cannot remove `.' or `..' /bin/rm: cannot remove `.' or `..'

 

I am getting the error message above on attempting to reinstall osCommerce. Have contacted ISP's tech support and they were not yet able to help, and I need to reinstate the site immediately.

 

Can anyone shed some light on this one?

 

FYI - all I was trying to do was change the Admin username and password, but it seems the only way to do this is reinstall. I went through the process of backing up all of the data and customizations, but now can't put the site back up.
