For me this is a bit to close to stock OsCommerce but I can see the potential. You need to change the page Icons to something more appropiate for your site. Also you Index page needs some work, get rid of the welcme guest header. There is some instructions in the contributions about aligning the screen using css which works really well. I couldn't find it so haven't included the link.

Hi,

there are contributions to center your shop but I haven't tried them so I can't suggest any particular one.

 

What I did to center mine was installing Basic Design Pack which centers your shop, removes default cartoon images, removes rounded box corners and a few other things as well (just read its description).

 

I would also install Ultimate SEO URL's to optimize your links and also Header Tags Controller. I hear its newest version is better still: Header Tags SEO

 

Get an SSL certificate and secure all account and payment related pages. People aren't very willing to fill in their personal info unless the page is secured. Put your SSL icon somewhere on your home page and talk about it in your Privacy page.

 

Shipping: do you ship to the US only or also worldwide? Specify it in your conditions.

 

Contact us form: if I were you I'd display the name of the company or business owner, a physical address and a phone number. Customers want a proper way of contacting a store in case a problem arises, and it proves that you're a serious business.

 

The following is purely personal, but maybe you should have put the artists' names in categories and the frame sizes in the drop down menu instead of the opposite. Categories will eventually come out in search engines and I think a category named "Matias - Virtuall Gallery" (this is where the meta tags contrib comes in handy;) will be a lot more efficient than one named "40 x 60" in search engine results. Just my opinion.

you have a NAKED categorie.. I believe the art term is NUDE.. Naked sounds childish. I woudl get rid of the model number listed on the product listing and new producst.

 

I also feel it is too stock. YOU ARE SELLING ART - your site should be more artistic and creative.

 

Are lovers prefer to shop by Artist, Style, time frame.. Check out ART.COM that will give you some inspiration.

 

you also need a LOT more description. Is it a print, an original? Tell a story about the paiting or the artist.. ANYTHING to give it more pizazz other than just an image and a buy now.

But I need suggestions to make it more artistic more dynamic.

if you look at your NEW PRODUCTS listing on the index page, you see there is the name of the painting and the model number[ar0003], which just makes it look cluttered.

 

As for design, i would start with a less box-y approach. Look into GRAPHIC BORDERS, IMAGES FOR INFO BOX HEADERS, better quality images for buttons and .gif images (like the write a review box .gif).

 

also, why have an option called frames if you can ONLY get some of the products not-framed, giving you no real choice. Just put it in the product description.

In my opinion you should re-think the colour scheme, white is too glaring for an art site, in my view. Look for a basic colour you like and work with different tones/textures of that colour or others that go well with it. You can also do the banner along the same lines. I see you've installed Basic Design Pack, that means you can customize the stylesheet exactly the way you want.

On SSL, not sure if you're asking to recommend an SSL provider ot how to install it, in any case look for a private SSL, NOT a shared one some hosts offer. SSL providers: http://www.geotrust.com http://www.verisign.com http://www.godaddy.com http://www.instantssl.com. Do a google search, there are probably more.

Not a design person but the art fan may be. Try a differnet shade of blue try rounding the infobox headers and dont use borders on them. Try a digffernt background but stick to something close to white.

 

BTW http://www.virtuallgallery.com/landscape-c-25.html change the gry color to blue!!

Add your adress and phone at the footer.

Nice that you are using lightbox but I would refer larger images

Your create account page isn't SSL'd when accessed from the home page.

You should put your SSL certificate icon on the home page, but if you don't want to, at least in your privacy page. It's reassuring to people. Talk about being SSL protected in the privacy page.

When I do access an SSL secured page I get "this page contains both secure and non secure items. Do you want to continue?". If I click yes, the padlock disappears. I guess there are some mistakes in the SSL installation, check your configure files.

As for marketing, you should check out the marketing/optimization forum http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showforum=40.

Generate traffic to your site by link building but beware of bad link exchanges (I made that mistake hehe), avoid link farms, get good quality one way links (not easy I know :angry: ) with possibly high PR sites (even less easy lol). Write articles in related forums/blogs. Submit to good quality directories, you must submit to DMOZ. If you can spare the $$$$, submit to Yahoo directory.

I have found that making promotional videos posted on YouTube brought me some traffic.

Last but not least, don't get paranoid about google PR ;)
