Esquire
I was having tremendous problems setting up tax zones and classes to be able to charge different rates for different provinces 1. we have two classes of products and services: taxable and non-taxable 2. in zones define two zones: CANADA > ONTARIO (Ontario) and CANADA > ALL ZONES (Canadian Federal Tax Zone). This will apply for any other province where you set you own province and PST rate 3.In TAX RATES you establish: priority 1 > Non-Taxable > Canadian Federal Tax Zone > Tax rate 5% priority 1 > Taxable > Ontario > Tax rate 8% priority 1 > Taxable > Canadian Federal Tax Zone > Tax rate 5% In your catalog products will be either taxable or non-taxable When the tax is calculated all taxable (CLASS Taxable Goods) goods will be charged GST+PST in your province (priority 1 in CLASS taxable goods) and purchases from out of your province will be charged GST only (Canadian Federal Tax Zone, priority 1 in CLASS Non-taxable goods). Of course, you will enter appropriate tax rate for your province.

ken0306
Hi, 604media, I read about your blog, it looks right on a regular products. However, on some product BC and ON give rebate on PST, such as baby car seat and baby clothing. On the tax role said it will issue and refund 7% (BC) after the sale. Do you have any idea how to setup the tax for baby business? ken0306
oscarfellini
How does one configure the tax zones when you (in this case a store based in ON) sell a combination of taxable items (DVDs) and partially exempt items (Books - only charge 5% of the HST). It is all complicated further by the fact shipping fees are subject to HST when an item is sent to other HST compliant provinces and only 5% GST for the others. Therefore a separate tax class would be created for those items, then applied to the item during the product creation process. This applies to books and other GST only items.
