I think you need to do far more work on the design of this site. You haven't done an awful lot...

I wouldn't buy from you.-burt

Thanks for your criticism. But can you tell me what needs to be done? Keeping in mind i am going for a simple design.

I like to see a design that says something about your site and products. What you have is generic and bland. To see some good examples of osCommerce sites, have a glance at the Hot 100 list. http://www.clubosc.com/hot100/ - all of these sites have a certain "something" that distinguishes them from others. For me, and remember it's only my opinion, your site is instantly forgettable. Do something, anything - just because you want a simple design, it can still be a good looking simple design.

Not having SSL is not a show stopper.

i personally like the simplicity of the shop. I would maybe get rid of SOME of the text and have the products center stage..

Images are sqaushed. You have your thumbnails actually at 504px × 504px (scaled to 100px × 80px).

Use a contribution that allows you to save a different image to teh thumbnail - then you don't have to have distorted on. (I'm getting deja vu)

From my last comment, you can see a working example of what i mean on one of my products:

you dont need a contribution to get correctly sized images.. you just set your images size so that you have a parameter for JUST width or JUST height and the other will adjust to scale without getting squished.

This is correct - but it will move your layout out of a "grid" view (liek the rasta store Lyndsay).

if you use the contrib, it can have a standard layout for the store, but you can show any size image in the pop-up or lightbox preview.

I like the color scheme and the simplicity. I would add few things.

1. I think you should add a background color or image.

2. The category box has way too many things in it, don't use the drop down menu just use a regular menu.

Hope that helps,

Frank

Copied from http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...p;#entry1268904

1. Images are squished. Use one thumbnail image at 100x100 (or whatever size your template uses) and a seperate large preview file. There are contributions available that allow you to do this.

2. Shipping&Returns and COnditions need text adding, or remove the links.

3. Privacy policy page can use HTML tags to split your text, if you like. For example, the "We also never give away your information to third party companies." may be better in it's own line. use <p> or <br/> to split the line. You can also use this on your home page and product info.

4. Your button backgrounds appear to be a feint grey box. Make the backgrounds transparent.

5. "Write Review" button is in a different format completely - shows that you're using a reworked template :-)

6. Same with teh "log in" button

7. Icons on some pages (contact us for example) have default icons. Change in catalog/images/ drirectory.

8. There's no search function accessible from the site (although you can type in the url to reach advanced_search.php)

9. What is the "garagesale bazzar" button/graphic for? Is it a leftover from teh template? Looks odd (and "bazaar" is spelled incorrectly)

10. Use Ultimate SEO for changing yoru urls to more search engine friendly ones.

11. Also, Header Tags SEO contribution for changing title elements and meta tags.

12. Add a dropshadow to the "Australia" in your logo - make it standout a little more.

Hope that this helps.

Danny

Don't know about that, I certainly would not input my details without a https connection.

I agree.

SSL is important (although I would argue that actively telling people you have SSL is more important) and it will get more important with web browsers highlighting your SSL status (like Firefox does now).

However, I would not buy from somewhere just because it had SSL. If the store doesn't look professional, and tick all the boxes of ease of navigation, pricing etc, then I give it a wide birth.

About the SSL, im not accepting credit cards anyway, only paypal and paymate so payment is under 128bit encryption anyway

So you expect people to enter their personal details in an insecure environment. Would you do that?

Now the link works, well I think your main mistake is the domain, which is AU. I think it may frighten your customers, because the customers will understand this store is not in USA. So it will be better if you use COM domain.
