Greetings to everyone,

I have been working on my site on and off for some time. It is a cultural site so colours are important. However I need honest feedback about the store. If you see a problem please indicate and state the solution if possible. Go easy on me but be very honest. Thanks.

Store is at http://www.iyahroots.com

I like it.. VERY festive and kinda exciting..

A few things i would change.. I know colors are important, BUT the green boxes with that particular color red over it is very straining on the eyes.. you COULD change the TYPE of red without loosing the cultural importance of it.. I can't even READ the red. maybe use yellow for the header colors, and add red elsewhere.. Like in the buy now buttons with yellow text inside.. basically, red text on green (or the other way around) is REALLY REALLY hard to read..

ACTUALLY.. i got an idea for the colors.. remember the little colored bar that was at the top of all of the boxes that came with the stock oscommerce.. Well, if you got those back, made THEM red, and then the text could be yellow, you would be keeping with the theme of the red black green and yellow

In the categories section, i would either get rid of the categories tree, or the drop down menu, it is a little redundant.

Also, if you can make the buttons (like add to cart, and reviews) a little better quality, that would help the look of your site A LOT.. they are the only thing that kinda looks "cheap"

On the shopping cart box, there is a little number "1" instead of the little arrow to click to actually GO to your shopping cart.

your photo gallery is a neat idea, but iw ouldnt put pictures of product on there unless you want to link back to where the person can actually BUY it. It would be better if you just put up some fun pictures of shows and people and stuff that is NOT for sale.

Great site. Some pointers from me:

1. Your product images are all different sizes. It throws out the layout. Add standard size images for your thumbnails, but add different sizes for the previews. See http://www.datamouse.biz/catalog/product_i...products_id=174 as an example. This uses a Lightbox contribution too.

2. Your buttons (add to cart etc) are on white backgrounds. Make them transparent - then you won't have the jagged edges on your shadows.

3. Your fonts are very small on the left - and in descriptions. Maybe increase by just one point in the CSS file.

4. I love the scrolling product bar at the top. very nice.

5. Back to images: In the product page, you have a set product image size and are squeezing the image into the holder. This distorts the image. Use the example from 1. there too.

6. Your root file (in configure.php) has an extra "/" in it. you can see that your url for the store has domain.com//catalog rather than domain.com/catalog.

7. Your icons (notifications,search etc) are standard. Maybe change them in catalog/images/ directory for something more funky and inkeeping with your site theme.

8. In the footer, you have an IP address lookup. Why? Is it actually useful?

9. In the footer, you have a counter for visitors. I'd drop it from the includes/footer.php file, as it shows how small your site is.

10. You only have one manufacturer. Maybe drop the option from the search function.

11. The image gallery opens a new window. Maybe open in the same, so it seems to be part of your site.

Check out simpleviewer for a very simple, easy to use flash-based gallery. (quick google search).

Hope that this helps.

Danny

Hi,

Trying to get rid of that #1 in my shopping cart infobox. Don't know how it got there or how to remove it. On my english.php it shows "Shopping Cart" no 1 beside the words.

Could it be in my shopping_cart.php? I don't know much php so here is what it looks like. Please help if possible.

hmm thats an interesting one now.. So if you go to english.php and look ath BOX_HEADING_SHOPPING_CART, you dont see the 1

It woldnt be in your css because then ALL the headings would have it. This is really odd..

I think i found it in your page source:

<!-- shopping_cart //-->
	  <tr>
		<td>

<table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
 <tr>

 <tr>
<td><img src="images/pixel_trans.gif" border="0" alt="" width="100%" height="1"></td>
 </tr>
 <tr>
<td class="boxText">0 items</td>
 </tr>
 <tr>
<td><img src="images/pixel_trans.gif" border="0" alt="" width="100%" height="1"></td>

 </tr>
</table>
</td>
 </tr>
</table>
		</td>
	  </tr>

See where it says

" <td width="100%" height="14" class="infoBoxHeading">Shopping Cart</td>

<td height="14" class="infoBoxHeading" nowrap>1</td>"

theres your 1.. nowrap1

I think thats in your index.php page

Thanks for your help lindsayanng. Can't seem to find the file laying out the table. I checked both my index file but no reference to the table directly. I've also checked my english.php files and column_right.php but again the code for the table was not there. Also, I didn't see that "1" sticking out anywhere.

So much have been done on this site and yet so much more to do. I don't know when exactly this problem began but thank you also for pointing it out.

What is the file that contains the table layout? Anyone?

Thanks Danny pointed that out but can't seem to fix it. I removed the extra slash but it still shows. Here is my configure.php in includes

I don't see one either. This line works better if it is listed as file path.

define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', dirname($HTTP_SERVER_VARS['SCRIPT_FILENAME']));

/****/rasta-products/catalog . just needs to be the complete file path on server.

i believe he is saying change this:

define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', dirname($HTTP_SERVER_VARS['SCRIPT_FILENAME']));

to this:

define('/mywebsite.com/raste-products/catalog', dirname($HTTP_SERVER_VARS['SCRIPT_FILENAME']));

i THINK.. but i dont think that will fix your issue.

my next suggestion is to add a dynamic flyout menu to your categories. It will REALLY help any customers with slightly slower internet speeds. There is a dynamic CSS categories menu which is REALLY great and good for speed optimization.
