Checking Date of Birth... new radio buttons?

An was wondering if anything further has been done with regards to the radio button options in place of a specific DOB?

 

Also, has anyone made some sort of validation script to check if a person is over the age of X (variable assisned in admin).

 

For my site to comply with a specific trade standard I need to implement a function that ensures people who register an account are over the age of 16 unless they have parental/guardian permission (maybe a checkbox)
