Opinion needed on header image..

I am attempting to come up with a design that I like  (which is a lot easier than it sounds LOL) and have designed a header image that I like but I can't quite tell if it looks okay as is or if there is something I could do to spruce it up a little. I'm looking for (constructive) opinions about it, if no one minds :). And ignore the images on the info boxes, I know they don't match right now ;).

TIA! :)

Hello giftsbargainsmore ...

This image looks good ? and loaded fast for me, tho I have a satellite connection, so I really cannot judge for the load time. :D

I do have a couple of suggestions just the same ? The larger title text seems a bit to thin to me. If you could make it just a tad wider I think it would make it stand out more or even apply a show effect to it. The small text is also just a bit too small ? I know from others always telling me (tho I still keep doing it no matter what  ), that it is too hard to read and comes out a little blurry.

Overall tho, it looks professional and clean and that should help your visitors to enjoy their visit. Nice job :)

I like it...

loads fast on 56k dial-up...

looks good at 800x600... at 1024x768, the image is centered while the rest of the page is aligned to the left... looks kinda awkward..

the design is very simple & soothing to the eye... very easy to read...

one suggestion (I have done this for my site)... I would split the image into 3 parts:

(1) the part that says "gift bargains and more"

(2) after the 1st part and before the start of the ovals... a section that is just dark blue only (that can expand to fill the screen)...

(3) start of the lighter ovals and fading to the end

and then make a table with 3 columns:

: set table width to 100% so that is expands to fill the screen at any resolution above 800x600

: column 1 has the 1st part of the split image set as an image in the column (not background, so that the width is correct)

: column 2 has the 2nd part of the split image set as the background so that this part of the table (only dark blue) will expand to fill the entire screen (so that it fills the screen when viewed above 800x600).

: column 3 has the 3rd part of the split set as the background (since there is text) and the width set as the width of the split image's 3rd part

Just a suggestion though

here is an example of what I mean:

I think that implimented like that, it looks much better @ resolutions above 800x600 (I didn't change the logo at all, just split it so it could be "expanded" to fill the screen, so you could see what I meant)...

somtimes visuals are easier to undertand than trying to explain it... I hope you don't mind me showing you an example of what I meant with your image...

again, it's just a suggestion.

oh one more thing...

I noticed the "quick links" section in the footer of your page... I have seen this on a few other sites as well, so I am assuming that it is a contribution... I've looked all the through them though and can't find anything that does that...

is it a contribution??? and if so, could u tell me which one?

Thanks for the tips (and compliments :))! I am going to try what you suggested, dreamscape, because when I was viewing the header at a higher resolution it did look kind of strange....

I am not sure if the Quick Links-type box is a contribution; I just made one myself in Dreamweaver using some PHP and old fashioned HTML...the top of the box is an image and the lines down either side is a table background; all of the information inside the box is a table nested inside, and the bottom line is an image as well. For the 'Your Account' Portion of the box I simply used an if/else statement to show one message if they were not logged in and another that shows all the 'My Account' Links when they are.

If you are interested in the code for it I'd be happy to post or email it. :)

Yep - looks good. Only one suggestion. The infobox images need to stand out more. On my LCD monitor they are not fully visible (red and blue will do that sometimes :-)

Looks good and strangly familar :-)

Well done and you will definately get there in the end!

I think the only thing similar between your 2 sites is the search bar and links box on the bottom of the pages... but then I was over at amazon.com a bit ago and they have the same thing on the bottom of their pages... I wonder who borrowed from who :-)

LOL....I'll admit that's where I got the inspiration for the search bar and links box (amazon.com and geekshop.com)..no harm in customizing something you like, right? ;)

I'll be changing the infobox headers very shortly here (which was why I suggested ignoring them for now; I was just unsure about the header at this point), so hopefully the red/blue thing won't be an issue :)

Actually, I used the Purchase without Account v55 contribution and it seemed to work very well with the new checkout ...I don't remember if I had to make any changes to the code (other than cosmetic), but if I did, they were fairly simple.

Here's the link:
