Two oscommerce sites using one MySql database

I have a store that is currently doing very well and I'd like to create a mirror site that has a different layout/front page focusing on a different target but the website itself will have the same product offering.

I wanted to know if anyone has ever tried this and if so what problems they ran into. I am currently selling mostly downloads and I know that temporary folders are made to link to downloads and didn't know if having two different sites using one database would even be possible.

Anyone know if this will work?

yeh i run a shop like that.. the main shop i first installed with the db has the admin side of things.. and i just simply didn't upload that for the second shop.. and you're also free to make the design completely different.. i changed my config file for the second shop so that it loaded the modules from the first shop so that i don't need to update both shops coding wise all the time.. works like a treat.. i'm thinking of doing a 3rd one soon... that's the only problem, twice as much updating when you want to add new bits of code!!
