errors after manual install

Recommended Posts

Hi, I changed servers and then had to do a manual install of a 2.2 ms2 store. I now have a handful of errors that are really tough to figure out, most on the admin side. Here are brief descriptions, but i figured pictures would tell the story better...

admin:

-lines not getting defined, ie BOX_ENTRY_SUPPORT_SITE, BOX_ENTRY_SUPPORT_FORUMS,

TEXT_INFO_DATE_ADDED...everywhere.

-in "configuration," can only select "my store"

-all modules are gone

-no products attributes

-ERROR_CATALOG_IMAGE_DIRECTORY_DOES_NOT_EXIST

catalog:

Error! Unable to determine the page link! <<after searching a bit, there's 1000 possible reasons!

adminpanel.png

adminmods.png

shall we get started?? :D

Well, many of the errors are caused by admin files not getting uploaded correctly, or at all. So the first thing to do is to reload all of the admin folder (except for the configure.php file) via FTP. Use a good FTP programme like WS FTP, FileZilla, or Fire FTP for the Firefox browser.

The "Unable to determine page link" error is usually caused by having "Use Search Engine Friendly URLs" enabled on a server which doesn't support them.

Hey Vger,

Already tried uploading the admin file with filezilla, and just did it again to make certain. also search engine friendly urls are off.

You know the story...it continues, but getting there....

also just noticed the problem with name definition is also on the catalog side too, on the few pages I get.

You are missing some files or they are corrupt. On both the admin and catalog side, you are missing some language files (admin/includes/languages & includes/languages). I would suggest a different FTP client.

Hope this helped,

Yea, I tend to agree with you because I've tried everything else. Must be corruption, I've compared the files on my pc to whats on the server and they all seem to be there. I'll try a different ftp tomorrow and follow up.

Let me ask, could total removal of the htaccess files be the culprit? With them (even all commented out) I get a 500 error, without them, I get what you see above. I've read a bit about "register_long_arrays = On" in regards to the page link error...possible? and how can you tell if the server has it on?

Any regards, thanks.

Ok, I've tried on two different ftp programs and again looked through each file. nothing is missing. same result. Is there more information that I can provide?

OK...this is leaning more toward your settings in both configure.php files. The image error is most likely due to a wrong permission setting (try either 777 or 755, which ever one works for your server).

If your configure.php files are correct, then it appears you are uploading into the wrong folders, eitherway, the osC folder structure is messed up since you do not see any of the modules or language files (this is why you are seeing the HEADING TEXT).

My bet is that if you correct any path errors in your configure.php files, update the permission settings for the images folder, all the errors will go away and your world will be a better place once again. :-)

Thanks. Below are mine. I haven't changed anything, because they look ok (?).....

Don't know if this would be relevant, but in my admin header (not seen in the above pics) I was getting:

Warning: include(includes/languages/english) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/k/i/n/kin****/html/catalog/admin/includes/application_top.php on line 153

until I changed (in app_top)

from:

// include the language translations
 require(DIR_WS_LANGUAGES . $language . '.php');
 $current_page = basename($PHP_SELF);
 if (file_exists(DIR_WS_LANGUAGES . $language . '/' . $current_page)) {
include(DIR_WS_LANGUAGES . $language . '/' . $current_page);			153

to:

// include the language translations

 $current_page = basename($PHP_SELF);
 if (file_exists(DIR_WS_LANGUAGES . $language . '/' . $current_page)) {

just noticed the extra "/" in admin/configure

define('DIR_FS_CATALOG_LANGUAGES', DIR_FS_CATALOG . '/includes/languages/

changed it to

define('DIR_FS_CATALOG_LANGUAGES', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'includes/languages/

but didn't do anything

Ok, after doing some comparisons, and uploading different stores, my main problem is that the term $language (language folder: english, spanish, french, whatever) is not understood

for example i can get an error (on another a fresh install with the name "shop", keep in mind):

Warning: require(includes/languages//index.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/k/i/n/kin***/html/shop/index.php on line 33

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'includes/languages//index.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/content/k/i/n/kin***/html/shop/index.php on line 33

NOTICE THE //

the code in index.php on line 33 is

require(DIR_WS_LANGUAGES . $language . '/' . FILENAME_DEFAULT);

so if i change it to

require(DIR_WS_LANGUAGES . $language . FILENAME_DEFAULT);

i get:

Warning: require(includes/languages/index.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/k/i/n/kin***/html/shop/index.php on line 33

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'includes/languages/index.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/content/k/i/n/kin***/html/shop/index.php on line 33

SEE, IT SKIPS THE LANGUAGE FOLDER (ENGLISH, SPANISH) ALL TOGETHER

If I fix this error, it finds something else with $language and up comes another error.

Me and a friend have looked trough all the folders and they're all in the correct place. The configure files (paths) seem right. So what is causing this?? That is the question.

Note: We had A LOT of problems with register_globals and the access files while trying to install, but did finally manage to do an "automatic install" just to run into more of these errors, if that's any clue.

Thanks

Sorry to bump..but it's been 5 days, and good news to report:

(pay attention if you're using or trying to use a 2.2-MS2 alt template store on godaddy)

update, update, update! I went all the way back to the 2.2 Milestone 2 Update, and then the following RC updates and did every single step..which took 4 hours! I used winmerge, and compared a new fresh download 2.2rc2a to my older store, just making the changes suggested. Just be careful on files like 'index.php' not to overwrite your template's custom settings (widths,heights, boxes). Finally, I overwrote the new install folder from 2.2rc2a and also its access files. The sql from the old store seems to have worked fine.

Well worth it..when I uploaded the store, not one error on either side! :thumbsup:

sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but I think a lot of people, like myself, are using these older 'cool looking' templates that you find floating around. They may work on one server, but when it comes time to migrate or when your webhost upgrades, your going to have the nightmares I mentioned above if you're not up to date. Oh well, live and learn...peace out.
