you cant even see anything in those screenshots...

sorry it's just to give you an idea of how the navigation worked as icons! so the large squares you see in the main content area of the site is how it looked : the following site should give you a good idea of how it should work http://www.betterthannature.com/catalog/

i've just found the following in index.php i had a backup of, but i'm not sure if the addon came with something else:

if ($category_depth == 'nested') {

$category_query = tep_db_query("select cd.categories_name, c.categories_image from " . TABLE_CATEGORIES . " c, " . TABLE_CATEGORIES_DESCRIPTION . " cd where c.categories_id = '" . (int)$current_category_id . "' and cd.categories_id = '" . (int)$current_category_id . "' and cd.language_id = '" . (int)$languages_id . "'");

$category = tep_db_fetch_array($category_query);

If its a category add-on like the example you gave, then in your backup check includes/boxes/categories.php .. or other files in "boxes".

I don't appear to have this in my backup: >_< as this was made about three years ago:(
