Configure.php & Permissions!

Hi all,

I'm new to the community, after deciding to go ahead and use the osCommerce application after hearing much praise for the helpfulness and level of support that its fan base provides here in the forums.

The installation went very well (I purchased a TemplateMonster skin), and I uploaded and ran the install php file. I got the expected configure.php error regarding it being able to write to the file, and I also read that I need to change their permissions.

I use SmartFTP, so I right clicked on the configure file, and changed the permissions to 444. Then I noticed that after I pressed 'ok', closed it, and opened SmartFTP again, it seemed to revert this back to what it was before? This time I manually unchecked everything so the file could only be read, but every time I close SmartFTP, it seems to revert exactly to what it was previously.

I know repetitive questions can get rather annoying to 'regulars' which is why I am posting here as a last resort - I have used the search tool and tried to read as much as possible, but I haven't found any solution so far.

Please could somebody help me solve this? I would greatly appreciate it!

Kind regards,

Sarah Cronk

Login to the Control Panel provided by your Web host (NOT OSC!) and change the permissions there.

FTP is notorious for failing at this task.

If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.
