Confirmation emails aren't send sometimes

Hello,

 

its a download shop which sells only virtual products. Payment system is Firstgate (and used PayPal a while ago too) and all works well most times.

 

But if not it exists the problem, that the payment is ok, customer paid the money, but the cart is still full with the bought items and no confirmatin emails are send. So the customer isn't able to download his order. And even if he tries to pay again, same procedure. Money gone, no mail and no empty cart.

 

I have honestly no idea where to start the search because it works in around 95% of the orders.
