ScooterBod - What do you guys think?

Hi Guys,

I'm fairly new to php and Ecommerce sites, I've had good success in the past with HTML based sites but thought it was time to try my hand at a complete system like OSC.

The site is almost complete, I have only uploaded a few products so far, just to test it. I'd love to get your feedback.

I would also like to thank the community for some awesome support and some amazing contributions, these are the ones I have used so far:

STS

Ultimate SEO

Headertags SEO

Dynamic Sitemap - (Got a little error message in Admin, but other than that it seems to function)

Lightbox

Fancier Invoices

Graphical Borders

Automatic Thumbnails

Google Translator

UK Royal Mail Shipping

Clean Buttons

Well, the site looks okay, but I'd recommend one design change - lose the background image on the right and allow the right column into that area.

The most basic mistake you've made is to have a Flash Intro splash page in the root and the site in a folder. Search engines won't get past the Flash Intro, but splash pages of any sort are a bad idea.

All that splash pages do is to annoy customers who want to go to your website, and not see a designers idea of a "cool" intro. It also puts one more click between the customer arriving at your website and completing a purchase.

So ....lose the splash page and bring the website down from the 'catalog' folder into the root.

Well done on teh store!

I have some suggestions for you:

1. Splash screen? This slows people getting into your store and doesn't give any "real" info about you. Scrap it, or make it more exciting (don't use Flash).

2. Review stars images are default. Change them to match your site - perhaps the Lambretta target circles, instead of wonky blue stars?

3. Not all of your popup images use lightbox. http://scooterbod.com/catalog/clear-lens-c...sses-pr-28.html is one of them

4. Your manufacturer images have white backgrounds, but are displayed on blue. Maybe have the background transparent (seeing as you're using GIF images)?

5. Languages don't change.

6. Sitemap text doesn't all make sense. You have "Let's See What We Have Here" as a page - but the page is actually your store home.

7. Title tags. The most important word should appear first, as Google applies most weight to this. Your pages have the same root title, and only change the end of it. They're also quite long, which reduces your keyword density too.

8. The text on the right banner is difficult to read (small, vertical and in white)

Hope that this helps.

Thanks for your feedback guys, I'm going to take some of your advice and make some changes over the next couple of days.

Danny - Thanks for your points, very valid and helpful.

Vger - I want to shift everything to my root directory and dump the flash intro page, although I fear it may effect some coding for some of the contributions I've added along the way. I might use something like grepWin to search and replace text with /catalog in it.

Burt - Yeh I know what u mean about the rounded boxes, I added graphical borders contribution in the early days and up until now I have been lazy about removing the coding from the files, I guess I should, it does seem to limit my options, I could be wrong but it seems to only give me 1 option for all the infoboxes and 1 option for the contents box.

thx again guys ;)

None of the contribs you've added should have hardcoded links in them, so the only files you need to edit when moving to the root are the two configure.php files and the root level 'base' in the url rewriting .htaccess file.

Hi,

I'm bumping this thread so I can get your opinion on the site since I added some changes, I havent loaded up many products as yet as I am in 2 minds if to stick with OsC or try Magneto.

My main concern is the slow loading time, it's probably my fault for taking the easy route and using STS
