Hi Folks,

I am new and want teach myself PHP. Any ideas on good books for a newbie like me?

 

PHP 5 For Dummies by J Valade & or Apache, MySQL, and PHP Weekend Crash Course by M Schafer are both OK.

I personally think the for dummies books are very good starters.

 

I use PHP & MYSQL For Dummies as a reference, along with their cart book.

I just spent 2 days making the code do as I wanted, on a very small part of the osCommerce files. I could have downloaded contributions , I think, not sure because I didn't search for them, but it was more fun and far more of a learning experience to have to do it by trial and error. Now I know how to do the same AND MORE next time.

But as far as I have learnt, the best way is to save a copy of what works (files and database ), then rip apart and reconstruct files to do that which you wish!

Its quite fun!

 

If you have an interest in learning osCommerce, you can achive a great deal.

if I had the faintest clue regarding exactly what it was that I may or may not be doing, I would stop it!!
