oscommernce 2.2 MS2 in PHP5

Hey, been having some trouble getting my store working in PHP5.

 

i've made a few modifications and can now at see the site without getting an error (i.e. i've sorted the global variables problem) and got it connecting to the database again, but its still not right.

 

i can't get any of the catagories to come up, and i cant log in, and the admin back end doesn't appear to work properly.

 

as far as i can make out, its a sessions problem, but i'm completely stuck.

my host did this to give me time to modify my site before the old server was closed, but that time is looming fast, and i just can't get it to work.

 

please help.

having read up a bit more, am i to take it that if i install 2.2 RC2a it will work on PHP5?

 

is there an upgrade route that means i will not have to reinstall from scratch from 2.2 MS2?
