does payflowlink post back the retail site when transaction failure occurs?

hi,

I am a new member to the forum. I am trying to integrate my site to payflowlink. I am using test american express credit card number for testing purpose. when the transaction is successful, data are posted to the user site. Now if transaction failure occurs then no data are posted. how can we know that transaction has failed and do update in our database?? please help me.
