Just use Inventory Stock Control

Hi,

This is a website I created for my wife......I did search for this solution, but no results were yielded.

I am quite experienced in html, and use a php framework to generate my site. I have integrated Paypal buttons but currently have no stock control.

I just discovered OSCommerce and want to ask: Can I integrate the database and just utilise the Stock control functionality?

I have a test server hosting 1 page with the current solution, but with most of the stock being bespoke/unique, availability numbers are important to me.

I have limited knowledge of database integration to a site, but I am a quick learner :), I guess I need to know:

How to populate the stock data in the DB?

How to link the sale with the DB update?

How to control the Out Of Stock notification?

Not sure if the questions are too general but......Thanks for any help in advance

It would probably be easier to use osc and use change the appearance to be the same as your site.

I notice you use attributes for some products, this functionality is standard within osc, as is the ability to sell through the site.

Like your design by the way.

Thanks for the feedback on the design :)

I am *Very* new to OSC, so am slightly hestitant to rip my site apart to fully integrate - I have only seen the demo example pages which don't really fit with my current design/layout. I appreciate that OSC is probably more customisable [ is that even a word?? ] than I understand at the moment, so I guess I will be best off installing the whole thing then playing?? - a great way to learn....

Without trying to be lazy - what is the laymans process for utilising the functionality? - like I said in my initial post, my background is HTML and PHP framework - I use Databases at work ( Microsoft SQL ) but have never integrated something like this.....and have never written my own MySQL queries

How do I display the stock levels within my current design?

I am guessing ( from research ) that the stock levels are updated using Paypal IPN - is this easy to incorporate?

Thanks again,

Karl

Don't rip your site apart, set your pc up as a web server using xampp, see download address below, install osc and play. (The queries are already written for you.)

Read the first 2 threads in the installation forum.

Stock levels are updated when the order is "paid" for.

Thanks Geoffrey,

I will do as you say and take a look - I didn't even know about Xampp, so a really worthy post, thank you.
