I am installing a contribution

The person who built the website told me that I have php code writing in html format.

Can anyone tell me what this means and how to correct it?

I was copying and pasting from the instructions.....and backing up in a text document (Open Office Writer - similar to MS Word) and sometimes copying and pasting the whole original file from the Open Office Writer back into file manager if anything went wrong.

Thanks

Not familiar with Open Office Writer, but you must not use word to edit php files. Use a pure text editor. Also, do not use the admin filemanager, use an ftp program.

I understand using a pure text editor.

Are you saying that I should not go through "file manager" on my admin panel?

Should I go through "ftp manager" on my admin panel?

File Mangler should never be used it has known issues.

You should download files using an ftp program like e.g. (free) filezilla then use a decent text editor (like e.g. (free) conTEXT) to alter the file then upload back to the server.

Ok, so file manager should never be used. If I cant use file manager to access the files, to download, edit and then upload again, which one do I use? Should I go through FTP Manager or some other avenue?

Thanks

Filezilla is opensource, free, and works great.
