Incorrect tax calculations

NittyGritty

Recommended Posts

I am having nightmares trying to get the correct retail (gross) price entered. I have entered a tax zone for New Zealand, added a tax class of 12.5% which is our GST. eg Have entered the correct Products Price (Gross) at 64.50. Automatically the Products Price (Net) comes up at 57.3333. However when I go to preview the Products Price the gross says $72 and, horror of horrors, on the Shop front the price is listed at $80. Having spent several hours with someone else pouring over possible mistakes and other posts on this site I am desperate for a solution in simple language that I can understand. I would really apreciate anyone's help.

I suppose that you do have the NZD as the default currency.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, NZ is the default currency.

Hm, they are odd figures that you quoted. What you said about admin seems ok, except for preview. The calculations is not exact in anything I can think of.

Is the value of the NZD shown as Value: 1.00000000

Yes the NZD is shown as Value: 1.00000000

The only way I can get the prcie close is to put Tax Class: None and 64.50 in both the Gross and Net. Then it still won't show as $64.50, only $65.

That maybe because decimal places is not set?

Out of curiosity, what happens if you put the tax rate at zero instead of 12.5%

Yes, if the tax rate is at zero it works as well thanks. I've fixed the decimal place now too. You are very helpful!

The only frustrating thing left is that I'm finding I'm having to individually photoshop most of my pictures because they are coming up distorted which takes ages!

Depemds on the distortion, it may be that they are not copied over in binary format.

Hi, I struck this too - although it's good to list the prices as including GST as that's how we understand the pricing of most goods and services, it's a hassle when you want to show the GST content on the invoices. I also have the rate set to zero but would be interested to know if you (or anyone else) works out how to dispay the pre-GST price and then the GST content, and gross price on the invoice.

I have no idea what I'm doing with OSC either but I fiddled with the image sizes until I got them un-distorted but I found it easiset when all the pics were all more-or-less the same dimensions to start with. (The image width and height settings are under 'images' in the configuration page.

Have you got any payment gateway advice you can pass on? any recommendations for NZ?

Have a look in Tips and Tricks, I vaguely remember something there.

Thanks - I couldn't find anything there but I'll keep hunting. Cheers.

It was for Australian GST, but it should work for NZ GST.

Hi there

We have given up trying to display both GST inclusive and exclusive prices. Somehow now I just put the gross price in and it appears as the same as the net. How I got to that I can't really tell you - it was the result of endless frustration and I just couldn't work out afterwards what I'd actually done.

Am still working on the images. Up till now I have been using other people's ones so I had no control over how they came to me. It will definitely be easier when I do the rest myself.

I have spent quite a bit of time investigating payment options. It is a minefield and the conclusion we have come to is that we will be best to use a local guy who is running other websites. We are in a slightly better situation because we already are well set up with eftpos and credit card facilities and just needed a secure way of accepting the customer's information - we can actually process it ourselves. I investigated the big companies like DPS but the cost was prohibitive.

Hi,

First - thanks again to Coopco for the GST thing.... I'll have a play with it.

Nitty Gritty,

I think if you select the option of 'display prices with tax' in My Store you can then just put the gross prices in and it doesn't add any tax.

Thanks for the payment options opinion too - it sounds like we've visited the same minefield. Mostly my customers are happy with bank deposit/Internet banking but it's not ideal and I suspect I loose a few orders....but as you say the cost of setting up with DPS plus the monthly fees etc is prohibitive (especially if you're a wee niche business like mine).

I'll keep looking but might just have to bite the bullet and give Pay Pal a go.

Cheers

Being in NZ, you could also offer PayMate.
