I am a beginner and have managed to come to the "New Installation" picture when installing OsCommerce.

I have not yet decided what domain/web host to use so I am installing everything in a "test environment" using my Mac as a local server. And now I am stuck....

Now I need to define:

-Database Server

The address of the database server in the form of a hostname or IP address.

-Username

The username used to connect to the database server.

-Password

The password that is used together with the username to connect to the database server.

-Database Name

I am putting in:

-Database Server: localhost

username and password????? since these should normally be delivered by the webhost, what do I put in here using my machine as the server?

-Database Name: here I put in the name of the folder where I have put all info so far (www) or should it be named differently?

Thanks for helping me, I am sorry to put in so basic questions but I have looked around a lot and I cannot find the answers. Seems not to be so common to start with a test installation on local server on Mac.

As mentioned, localhost is ok.

If you click on the "Open start page" botton of MAMP you will find the username and password to use in the following section:

To connect to the MySQL Server from your own scripts use the following connection parameters:

Host: localhost

[Port: 8889]

User: root

Password: password

If you then click on the phpMyAdmin button, you can specify your database name.

Hope this helps,

Tim
