rstaff Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Hi all, I opened my store on 1/04/08 and have made some sales and some customers. I've got some adwords with google and overture (getting some traffic from these). My store is office supplies and stationery and for these two keywords my organic results aren't on at least the first 30 pages on either google, yahoo, msn. On google I have around 5000 pages indexed, 200+ on yahoo and livemsn 200 odd. I've found that if I search for a particular product, I will rank pretty good, however, I would like to focus on getting a better page rank for the keywords 'office suplies' & 'stationery'. I don't have budget for seo company. I have cdynamic meta tags, ultimate seo url, fwr seo validation. I've also listed my site on many directories, continuing to do so (477 backlinks and counting). Still no rank for stationery and ofice supplies. Any help would be greatly apreciated, I've read through forums and done all the I have been able to find, but need some more help. My site is: www.officemetro.com.au Thanks for reading my post :)
rstaff Posted May 27, 2008 Author Posted May 27, 2008 I don't understand why we don't show up in results for "office supplies" or "stationery" when we have about 5000 pages indexed, and in google statistics our page rank distribution has our some pages in "High" PageRank. It also says that our top/home page is our highest ranking page and has been for March and April. I've heard of sandbox...is this 'sandbox' the reason? Is anyone able to help me? :)
Jack_mcs Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 You have to optimize the home page for your keywords. It isn't done automatically. PageRank has little to do with your index position. rstaff Posted May 27, 2008 Author Posted May 27, 2008 You have to optimize the home page for your keywords. It isn't done automatically. PageRank has little to do with your index position. Jack Hi Jack, I am new to this (my first site). What would you recommend I start with? I have change title to include my two main keywords and they are both scattered around the home page 13 times. All of my indexed pages now how 'office supplies' in place of 'top' in breadcrumb trail and I've put alt text in search button 'Search for office supplies and stationery'. Would any of the above hinder my goals. What else should I do? Any tips?
Jack_mcs Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 It sounds like you are doing the correct things. Are your keywords hihgly searched for? If so, it could take some time to be indexed for them. Other than that, try searcing the forums for SEO. There have been many threads regarding this subject. DataMouse Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 It sounds like you're kind of doing the right things. First of all, your PageRank does have an impact on your ranking position - but ONLY if you are optimised for the keywords that are being searched for. Around 90% of your SEO work is done from off-the-page stuff (ie. away from your website). Link building is the main way - but there are some clever things that you can do with your links to increase their weight. For example, lookup "anchor text optimisation". This is where all links to your site include your keywords. Don't just use: "www.yoursite.com" as the text. Also the keyword density of anchor text will affect it's weight. Look at the sites that are linking to you. Do they have good PageRank? If they do, do they have loads of outbound links? If you have a link from a PR7 site, but it has 100 outlinks, you're only getting 1/100th of that PR7 site. Does the page that links to you have a relevent title tag to your keyword? Is the link page deep? If so, this may not be indexed by Google. Checkout my blog at www.datamouse.biz (green blog icon in top right) for some SEO stuff. I'm constantly updating - but there's already loads of stuff about on-the-page and link building strategies. Failing that, get yourself an SEO expert - but be prepared for a long relationship. SEO takes time and you might not see results for a couple of months... Hope this helps Danny I had a blind date last night. Her name was ..:. :.: :: .. ::. :. ::.
