Hey all as some of you know im new here and i think oscommerce is a great free software and guys who make the contribs are doing a very good job.

BUT i do have a downside

These forums are to help people who need help using the software, help configing it and i see that there is only a small % of users who do help the peeps who need it. This is a big downfall in my eyes as lots of post go unansered when some people really need the help

As i said be 4 the softare is good and so are the contribs but peeps need to help each other out in a while, u give me joomla and i can tell u how to do most things with it but this its new to me and im trying to learn it as i go along if not ask questiosn

my rant over

Thanks

I agree with the rant. Hell the documentation that came with the software was blank (all I got was a 114 page blank pdf document). Even the solutions people have posted seem not to work. Very frustrating for folks opening stores and such, but I do want to say a thank you for those that have helped.

May I also have a little rant?

Your domain name cost you $x.

Your website hosting cost you $x.

Your payment processors charge you $x per transaction.

Your osCommerce cost you no money, but cost you your time to set it up and trawl this forum.

Why do you expect to be given "expert" time (that is the time taken to troubleshoot/help) for nothing? It's quite staggering that all the forum members here want to try to make it in e-commerce and general online business, but want to rely on the kindness of strangers for help!

If you want to be professional in your online business adventures, then start today by realising that you need to pay for some things (mostly those things that are beyond the skill level of the majority of the forum). Realise that 99.99% of the forum members are shop-keeps like yourself - so why would you expect answers to ANY of your questions?

Im going to point this out. When someone doesnt get an answer, you can bet that its a question that has been asked already several times, and there have been answers/soltions posted.

Why would someone who knows the answer want to take the time to post when the one asking doesnt take the time to search?

Granted, this forum is not the easist thing to search, but the answers are here and free. Easy generally cost $.

And a google search of these forums will almost always lead you to your answer.

And with the certian group of people that bump threads after an hour of no answer, or post that "nevermind, I figured it out", but dont reply how they figured it out, and the ones that give no thanks to people that take the time to help, or the ones that come here and act like they are expected to have full individaul help, Its suprising there are any people left here that want to help.

If they closed these forums from being able to post and reply today, you could still find the answers to 90% of what you need. This forum is a valuable tool, its been here since what? 01, 02? longer? Some people need to start using the tool, and quit depending on others to do their work for them. Not saying its bad to ask for help, but its bad to just come here, sign up, and then ask a question right away without ever bothering to look first. If you look first and cant find the answer to something that is probally a pretty obvious change/problem and post that you did try looking first, you will generally get better feedback.

Strange, it does contain 114 pages of text (and is outdated in a number of places unfortunately).

Yes it is nice to get an answer, but if you don't get one then take the reply to be

1) search the forum the answer is normally there.

2) Not enought information for even a psychic to work it out

3) not osc related

4) go away and pay someone to do it

5) With a little effort you can do it yourself

Anyway, here is a solution to one problem, a link to the documentation.

I have to confess it was the first thing I read after downloading the package, before even installing it. Then ploughed through the knowledgebase and the pinned threads in the installation forum. 2 hours research saved me 100.

I've been burnt too many times.

A suggestion for the dev tem would be to put a link to it and to the knowledgebase on the initial page. Not to mention how to google this site
