Hi and still merry christmas to all!

Im now going to install OSC on my linux box, running RedHat 8.0 and is just wondering if there is a easy way to get Apache,PHP and MySQL supported on that box. I am kinda new to linux, but now how to compile and install. Is there a guide for installing OSC on linux? :) and is it ok to run Apache 2.x?

I've seen people talk about EasyPHP in this forum, which installs PHP, MySQL and Apache. I've never used it, so I can't tell you first hand how it is. (http://www.easyphp.org).

I read on the following link that current versions of PHP have problems with Apache 2.x:

http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30209

If you install Apache, MySQL and PHP from the Redhat RPMs, you'll be in good shape....it's straightforward....no compiling necessary.

After you get Apache, PHP and MySQL installed, to go http://www.oscdox.com and download the OSCommerce Installation and configuration guide.

Finally, you should download and install phpMyAdmin from http://www.phpmyadmin.net. This will allow you to administer your MySQL databases from a web browser.

Good luck.

Oops...sorry about that Crasy....like I said, I never used EasyPHP, so I can't say firsthand if it's good or bad. I didn't even realize it's just for Win32.

I run OSC test environments on both Linux and Windows 2000. On my Linux box, I installed MySQL, PHP and Apache from the RPMs. On my Windows 2000 box, I just downloaded the binary installs. Straight forward enough.

No problem! I see...what is making me so confused here is that i installed apache as default under RedHat installation. That was 2.0 so i had to remove it, and i dont have a clue on how to do that ;) Trying to figure it out now, but right now, much confusion going on here. Help me out?

-Best regards, Henrik

If your new to Linux you might consider using Linux Mandrake instead of Red Hat. You can boot to KDE and use their software manager to install all of the software you need. This is off topic any more info PM me.

Im familiar with Mandrake, but i found RH better. Im running KDE under RH too and its great. My only problem is that i got two installations of Apache and dont know how to remove them. Do you?

Crasy,

If you use Redhat 7.3 you can probably avoid the versioning problems.

If you opt to stay with RH 8.0 and if you installed the RPM packages, you can use the rpm command line utility or, in a graphical interface, GnoRPM to install/uninstall packages.

Good luck.
