Managing Images: Huge number is overloading the server

This isn't an actual OsCommerce issue, but it is directl related to my sotre. have a huge inventory, 25,00 active items & there's images for every one of them, plus lots for inactive ones that may be used in the future. The problem is it overloads the server somehow & may items are missing images as they are all lumped into on "/images" folder.

Is there any way of organising the files so that they sit in manufacturer based folders? This seems to rectify the problem. I've tried writing a macro that creates folders on my PC based on the "v_manufacturers_name" field in Easy Populate, but I can't get it to work.

What I'm looking for is some faciltiy to do something like this

Item 1 Manufactured by FredCo, image name FredCo1.jpg. This requires a folder called "FredCo" to be created at the desired destination & the image FredCo1.jpg moved into that folder.

Item 2 Manufactured by BossCo, image name BossCo12.jpg. This requires a folder called "BossCo" to be created at the desired destination & the image BossCo1.jpg moved into that folder.

Item 3 Manufactured by FredCo, image name FredCo9n.jpg. This needs to go into the existing folder called "FredCo".

Item 4 Manufactured by LexCo, image name LexCo72a.jpg. This requires a folder called "LexCo" to be created at the desired destination & the image LexCo72a.jpg moved into that folder..

etc etc.

I suppose I could also use something that uploads the files in a smart manner, based on manufacturer name, but can't find any FTP app that will do this. Big problem is that not all the names are so easily identifiable, a "BossCo" product might just as easily have an image "123abc.jpg"

Thanks all.
