blank install page and manual install errors

I have tried the manual install and the script install several times and just cant get this to work on a redhat 8 with mysql 3.23.52.

 

I have the database imported but when i run the install script i get this with no option to proceed:

i have tried manually editing the config.php but get an error when i run default.php:

 

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /var/www/html/store/catalog/includes/configure.php on line 18

 

Fatal error: Failed opening required 'DIR_WS_FUNCTIONSsessions.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /var/www/html/store/catalog/includes/application_top.php on line 160

 

 

any help would be greatly appreciated i have scoured this news group but i am coming up empty...

This may be the result of a partially corrupted download. Have you tried downloading a newer snapshot??

 

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /var/www/html/store/catalog/includes/configure.php on line 18

Please post lines 13-23 of catalog/includes/configure.php. This will help us in locating anything awry!!

This is most likely an error caused by the first one. It *should* go away once we can get the first one fixed ...

Is Redhat 8 now considered stable enough to run in a live environment ?

 

I'd consider d/grading to 7.2 or 7.3...
