kelagedart Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Today the power went out, and my file server machine, sitting atop a UPS after a while gave up the ghost and went down too. And it took down the primary hard drive. It is 'clanking'. It was also the location of XAMPP and my OSC website still in development. The good news is that I lost only a few hours of work on modifications done to OSC as I had backed up HTDOCS and subs to my main machine. But I cannot find the backup of the entire XAMPP directory structure. It may be on the bad hard drive.... This generates two questions, from a total newbie to website development: 1. DO I need anything from the MySql directory or Apache (anything above HTDOCS) to restore the complete web site? 2. Are there any utilities that can recover info from that bad hard drive (with the 'clanking' sound!). Many thanks in advance...
kelagedart Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 Further info: The machine has 2 identical WD 40 Gig hard drives. The dead one has OSC and ALOT of other important info on it. I *think* its an electrical failure, as there had been no prior hard drive problems, and when the bad drive is connected it effectively prevents any other devices on the IDE channel from being recongnized. It also is not recognized by the BIOS. Perhaps it would be worth my time to switch controller boards? Anyone know of links to instructions for that?
