cart empty when proceeding to checkout

Hi,

 

I've installed oscommerce. When I added items to the cart, but when you click 'proceed to checkout' the cart is empty.

I've looked on the forums, but it all is very confusing. I've edited the includes/configure.php. Unfortunately, after fiddling with settings advised on the forums, I was unable to access the control panel. I re-installed oscommerce to get it back.

Now it's all up and running again, the same problem occurs. I contacted my server to ask about cookie setting to see if they had a solution. They advised me to contact oscemmerce. I'm a bit reluctant to edited the includes/configure.php as I have to change the permission so that I could up load the changes to the server; this was how I lost the control panel on the previous install.

 

Can anyone help me through this problem?

thanks for your reply. What should I be looking for? These are the current setting:

 

Session Directory /tmp

Force Cookie Use True

Check SSL Session ID False

Check User Agent False

Check IP Address False

Prevent Spider Sessions False

Recreate Session False

 

This is the first time I've used oscommerce, so I'm just feeling my way. So I don't know what they should be set to.
