jhande Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Hey Aline21, Just a few suggestions... ;) Use an image optimzer, such as the contribution - Big Images for different size thumbnails and large images. Finish making the graphic headers for the infoboxes; such as - Specials, Reviews, Information, etc... The stock buttons - Buy Now, Reviews, Add to Cart, etc does not match your theme and looks out of place. Possibly resize the credit card images so they are all the same and add them into an infobox for balance. Remove the empty / dead space below the main page and the footer. No search engine friendly URL's Is three links to the shopping cart really necessary? Possible option for links: Top of header: Home | About Us | Contact Us Navigation Bar - I tend to like the stock menu links; Log in or Create an Account / Welcome Name! Log Off | My Account | Check Out Just some of my thoughts... :- - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -

And looks like he doesn't know much , looks like we wher his test in building a web site , but we paid him and he doesn't want to deal with us since we asked him too many things that he did not know and he is still working on some bugs. So i decided to try to learn a bit here and fix my own problems hope that we will be able to. Vry kind regards . Aline21

That type of story is all to common these days, what with everyone who knows a little HTML and maybe some PHP coding claim to be able to tackle such jobs. One thing that really makes it tough is osCommerce is a complicated program. I showed it to a college colleague in her fourth year of web design and maintenance, and she was stumped. She said it would take her quite a long time to familarize herself with it and she still might not know enough to change and customize it. I know I am greatful for all the help we get here in the forums from people who are kind enough to share their wisdom. ;) I think you will be able to make any changes, especially with the help from here. Good luck and keep the faith! Jim - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -

Good luck and keep the faith! Jim Thank you JIm ,I will try my best to get help here , I have changed to Authorize.net as my payment and i did the programing in the web site , I called and got a bit in how to do it and it works , since Authorize.net is in the osCommerce you just need to know how to get the codes, Where if you call the help desk where i was on hold for 65 minutes but they did solve my issue in less than a few minutes where the web designer told me that it will cost me a few hundreds of Dollars to do that See how people rip you off . For example i woke up in the morning and my water heater went bad. I called a Plumber and he said that it will take him half a day with a helper ,and the cost will be about $800 to $950 for labor and the Water heater is about $550.00 . I went to the home Depot and the total installed was $779.00 and done . This is off our subject here , but just to let you all know that you can do many things for free ,it needs a bit of time and thinking like i did here, Even the web designer asked me that he have to charge me to remove Paypal where i went and removed it myself very easy. So guys be aware of web designers that will rip you off, But I agree that there are also honest ones out there , But more dishonest than honest out there. My web designer is gone but i am sorry for every penny i paid him. Thanks again for all. I am aware that the osCommerce is complicated but if you take the time and try to do things by your self you will do and save and learn . Very best regards Aline21
Guest Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Works now. Slow loading site stock site. Yes I am aware of it , I have to resize some images and i need the time to do that . I am still trying to make my site to look good like others where people will want to buy when they go in and visit my site , Pricing has to do a lot , Where we make very little for what we offer . Thanks again Aline21
jhande Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 You are welcome Aline! I know what you mean about the hot water heater. Mine just sprung a leak a few days ago and caused my water pump (well water) to burn out. I called a plumber and he estimated the labor and parts to cost at least $1,050. (heater $450.+, pump $350. - $500., labor $210.+ ($70 an hour x 3 hrs)). I went to my local builders supply and picked up the heater for $175. and the pump (minus motor) for $65. I spent a whole whopping 45 minutes installing them. Any way... Here is a nice contribution which is pretty easy to add for seperate thumbnail and large images - Big Images Modification v1.25 for osCommerce 2.2 MS2 by Jan Skopek 17 Aug 2003. You can kind of see it in action at my work-in-progress site - Hande's Hobbies. Except I took it a step further, instead of having the larger pop-up images I embedded them on the product info page. A word of caution - something within the last two weeks has caused my site to load super slow. Something else for me to look into. - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
