Yup, Dreamweaver is one of the most powerfull tools for webdevloping... :]

For HTML sites maybe - but for PHP sites you are far better off using a plain text editor like Text Pad, PS Pad, or Crimson Editor.

Dreamweaver is of little use working on PHP sites, and the Dreamweaver FTP client should not be used under any circumstances.

I use Dreamweaver to edit files and upload (ftp) them. Works fine.

Yes, of course you can use it to edit, but you cannot use it to see the results of the edits before the file is uploaded.

I use dreamweaver with no problems ata all. Like Cooper said though you will have to upload the files to see the changes you've made.

Would this be also true if Apache and MySql (XAMPP) were running concurrently?

Would they permit Dreamweaver to be WYSIWYG with PHP???

I have been using Dreamweaver 8 with WinMerge 2.6.6.0 and XAMPP 2.4 for some time now with no problems what-so-ever, even for FTP'ing my files.

Within Dreamweaver I still see the php placeholders, I believe that is just the way it is to be. However I can "preview in browser" and see my changes prior to uploading.

Just make sure you have your osCommerce directory (catalog) in the xampp\htdocs folder. Have a copy of your database in xampp\mysql\data. Then point to those from within Dreamweaver.
