johnwvg Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Hey everyone, I would love some input on my parts store. Now I am selling parts for a niche market so keep that in mind. Also most guys who look for these types of parts have the part numbers they want. Anyway any constructive input would be really appreciated! Thanks! www.airlessusa.com/catalog/ John
jasyn Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 simple design. i think categories should be the first thing on your left hand column instead of the search function.
♥geoffreywalton Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Seems like an almost stock shop. Still trying to load in FF after almost a minute, you might want to make your images smaller. If I hover over your logo is displays "OsCommerce". Speelink mistoikes If you don't see the part you need here, please e-mail us at [email protected] and we will check our wherehouses to see if we can locate the part for you! You could try to match the colour in the catalog to that on your main site so it continues the theme.blends in. johnwvg Posted May 7, 2008 Author Posted May 7, 2008 thank you for the input guys. I will make most of the modifications you suggested (and thanks for catching that spelling mistake). One question, how do I make the images smaller? And which images are you refering to? The product images? My problem with the product images is I have to use a bigger image if I want the "enlarge picture" function to work. Oscommerce seems to shrink these down for the product listings so it looks right but I think it still hurts my load time because it has to load the full "large" image and THEN shrink it down. Im hesitant to make the product listings photo's smaller for this reason, I want "enlarge picture" function to actually enlarge the picture. Thanks for your help so far! John
♥Vger Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 It's not the image size that's the problem - your site is on a crap server. It even hangs loading text pages with just tiny button images. I seem to repeat this every time someone posts a new site - but here it is again: 1. No SSL - wouldn't buy from a site without SSL. 2. No Meta Tags 3. No Ultimate SEO URL's Vger

Thanks! www.airlessusa.com/catalog/ John Its easy to navigate, but super slow - try this contrib for reducing your load time by dinkifying the pictures: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/1484 The Ultimate SEO URLs and a metatag contrib will help people find you. I dont' mind that its a stock looking installation - whoever designed osCommerce had a good eye in the first place, its nice looking right out of the box!
