Email Confirmations not getting through

Hi

I am hitting this frustrating problem. If mail is sent automatically from OSC - as in the confirmations, order updates and password requests, most are now not getting to the recipient - I know tis to be true of Yahoo but more and more seem to not get there.

This is causing huge issues with people phoning in to check their order went through etc -

I have been hunting for a solutions but I cannot seem to find one - If i send the email direct from say outlook - goes through ok so I cannot see that I am on blacklist?

if anyone can point me in the right direction then I would appreciate it - I am assuming this must be happening to quite a few people?

You don't mention what email options you are using, but I would suspect you are using 'sendmail', as opposed to SMTP. (look at Email Options in your Control Panel) As an email admin, the commonest complaint I hear is about mail not getting through, for one reason or another. The most likely reason that your osC generated mail is not going through is that the recipients spam rules/filter are viewing it as suspect, because the mail is not coming from the mail server identified in your DNS record. Another issue is Reverse DNS. And increasingly, the absence of a valid SPF record. If you don't know what I'm referring to, talk to your hosting company. Here's 3 suggestions:

1. Send mail only from an authenticated account via your mail server. (SMTP via TCP/IP)

2. Make sure your mail server has a Reverse DNS record.

3. Ask your host about the SPF record for your domain; it must name your mail server.

Don't have time or space to offer a detailed explanation of the intricacies of email, but it's time to learn the basics, if you're gong to continue to use email for business. The days of wide-open mail servers is behind us.
