AlwaysNewbie Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Hi folks, every day i found this forum more and more wonderful place. Unfortunately I can't help much to anybody cause I don't know much. Now, back to this thread question. I installed osCommerce 2.2RC2a fine and even installed STS 4.58, HTC SEO 3.0 and UltraPics 2.07. Everything works fine (about some minor things I will post in another more apropriate place). By default osCommerce create catalog directory and installed everything in there. I like it because it separates store from anything else. Now my question: which is the better way to redirect www.mydomain.com to www.mydomain.com/catalog. As I understand, I can create special page, something like a fancy splash screen or something like that or intro page with a menu, but probably not much people like delays and want to get directly into the store. Also, I heard that search engines don't like redirection (probably it's not true if that redirection lead to down level, not completely to other address). Other way is probably to move whole store from the catalog directory to the root, but I don't realy know if it is the best idea (I guess it should work if there are no absolute adresses in links). Please advice the best way, or at least the way you preffer to do it. Thanks for help, Mike Computers777dotcom
Jack_mcs Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 One of the best ways to kill a sites chances of ranking well is by adding an entrance page so I would suggest against that. You would be better off moving the site to the root that redirecting to it. If you must redict, use a command in the .htaccess file. There are many examples in these forums or on the web.
