diligentinquirer Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Have downloaded merchant. Just cannot see how to install as a final prog. Have win98, FF2.+, Am fairly (say maybe medium) knowledgable, but everthing I see sounds like I need to be a programmer expert or similr, which I am not. Sure would appreciate some good help on how to simply install merchant. Thanks, Jim. <_<

diligentinquirer Posted May 4, 2008 Author Posted May 4, 2008 Thanks, BryceJr! I'll study that info. Jim. OK, installed xampp wit h installer. Got this message: “No service installation available on windows 98/me/hpme” But Xampp went ahead and installed OK, it said. I cut the "catalog" folder, and pasted it in to the "htdocs" folder. Gues I am stummped starting with number 6. What do you mean by "open my browser". When I type --localhost/phpmyadmin-- in the web address space, it cannot connect to anything Help is appreciated in advance. Jim. 1. Download xampp here >> http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html 2. Install xampp. Remember where you're installing xampp. After installation, restart your computer 3. Locate the xampp folder created in the installation. 4. Unzip OsCommerce you downloaded. Extract "catalog" folder. 5. Inside xampp folder is another folder called "htdocs", place the "catalog" folder inside it. 6. Open your browser and type "localhost/phpmyadmin" no quotes 7. login user: root and no password 8. Once logged in, type a name for your database in the input box, click create. Remember the name of your database. Exit 9. Open your browser and type "localhost/catalog/install" no quotes 10. Continue with installation

Continue with installation NEW EDIT Used "http://127.0.0.1" instead of "localhost/phpmyadmin". The latter did not work. The former brings up this address: http://127.0.0.1/xampp/. Now I am not sure what No.6 (above) means. Guess its the security because when I click security a login fram comes up with a "root" stated, and the ability to create a new password, Am working on this, will advise. Thanks, Jim
