Ryanc Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 Hello I am currently searching for a good webhost that has PHP configured correctly for oscommerce. I have just cancelled my last host because it did not have PHP configured correctly. Any webhost suggestions are highly appreciated!
joongpark Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 I think people are not allowed to advertise here so I don't think you will get one specific hosting company. Try "Oscommerce Hosting" on Google and do a seach on this forum under Hosting and you will find lots of discussion and places you can go to find good hosts for Oscommerce.
mattice Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 Hosting questions should be asked on www.webhostingtalk.com to prevent people posting commercial offers on this thread... which is indeed not allowed on this forum. Any host that runs php with register globals enabled and mysql will do. Regards, Mattice "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"
dreamscape Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 I really wouldn't reccomend asking at webhostingtalk.com as all replies you get are more than likely going to be from webhosts saying that they are the best and you should go with them... just how that is helpful I still am not sure, but maybe mattice can explain it since he is all about webhostingtalk.com I still don't see why someone who has been running an OSC on a webhost for awhile cannot make a reccomendation. I don't see how that can be commercial advertising since they do not even work for the host and will not see one cent if the person decides to follow their reccomendation... because that is all it is, a reccomendation... and it doesn't even have to be good... if it were allowed then people could not reccomend web host companies because they tried them and found them not suitable for OSC or their needs... so how a reccomendation/review of a webhost from a nuetral party (I don't think many people on the forums here are web hosts) == commercial advertising is completely beyond me. Harald Ponce de Leon Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 I really wouldn't reccomend asking at webhostingtalk.com as all replies you get are more than likely going to be from webhosts saying that they are the best and you should go with them... just how that is helpful I still am not sure, but maybe mattice can explain it since he is all about webhostingtalk.com That's exactly whats going to happen here if advertising is allowed - multiple (and I do mean multiple) companies will reply with their rates, perhaps competing over each other just to gain another customer. In the end, it's all about the cheapest rate and the (poor?) services that go along with it - something which should be avoided for e-commerce sites. I still don't see why someone who has been running an OSC on a webhost for awhile cannot make a reccomendation. Is it possible to differentiate between a recommendation and an advertisement? If you want a recommendation, look at Pair Networks. We recommend them not because they are sponsoring the project, but because they offer a very professional service (they have no need to "compete" in advertisments just to gain customers). Yes, it may cost an extra $ or two, but it's the quality that is provided that matters. Please note I am not slamming small hosting providers - just the multiple offenders that are dishonest by not following the forum rules. , osCommerce
Guest Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 Joshua, I think you would be surprised at the number of web hosts that would come out of the woodwork if it was allowed. As for making recommendations as a neutral party and not getting paid for recommendations.....again, many hosts offer some type of incentive for referrals. Whether it's a free month of service or cash, it's still payment.
mattice Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 but maybe mattice can explain it since he is all about webhostingtalk.com I work there. But don't tell Harald. "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"

Is this a recommendation that others can't make, or advertising?
rseigel Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 What exactly is your point? Just using this reply as a way of getting your link out there again? IMHO hosting sigs should be banned from here as well. Harald?
bbanks1 Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 [MATTICE:EDIT] no commercial advertising allowed
rseigel Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 Here we go again. Why do you zeros insist on SPAMMING these boards? You'll never get any business this way. Nobody in their right mind would host with a SPAMMER! Looks like this thread need to be locked as well.
mattice Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 Locking thread due to advertising "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"
